Creggan is actually a very peaceful place to live now, the houses are well kept and the kids for the most part well behaved, there’s not much antisocial behaviour or crime . I lived in it years ago and witnessed the most violent years. It might sound crazy to an outsider but there wouldn’t have been any violence in Creggan if the police and British Army stayed out of the area. The area had their own “ police force” and petty crime , drug dealing and criminal assaults were very rare . Derry people by nature are welcoming , kind hearted and laid back but just don’t come into their city disrespecting them or thinking you’re any better or you’ll see the other side of their character very quickly , that’s why the Troubles kicked off in 1969 when thousands of Orangemen from all parts of Northern Ireland and Scotland would parade in Derry every year to commemorate ancient victories over the native population. The Derry people weren’t having it anymore and the ensuing violence spread quickly to Belfast and throughout the country . Derry is much more peaceful but still economically disadvantaged by lack of government investment despite having a highly educated young population. Being one of the most beautiful cities on the island of Ireland it’s definitely a fantastic place to visit, full of interesting history, great restaurants and hotels and Inishowen , the most scenic part of the north of Ireland is in Derry’s natural hinterland .

Very interesting. This guy knows a lot about the local history. However, the video would have been better if you showed more of the monuments and less of the guide. Try to show the monuments while the guide is talking.

What’s Catholicism got to do with it really? Just because the wannabe Brits use it doesn’t make it exclusive to them. Orange is in the Irish flag after all. And the green represents Gaelic not Catholicism that’s a later propaganda add on

There is nothing like an independent, impartial, unbiased and truthful account of history and this is nothing like an impartial, unbiased and fair account. It is however, a great tribute to the UK that such bitter people as this are paraded before us as worthy of admiration. This guy has thrown his life away on bitterness and violence. Its sad and he is to be pitied really.

Charlie, at 10 minutes 47 seconds you make a comment about a British Centurion tank "fighting the Russian's".With all respect its a slightly insular and naive comment. While Britain and its army might be a big player in the north of Ireland, once you mention Russia you are in a different world. In 1972 when Britain launched Operation Motorman, the Soviet Union had over 1 million men in Europe. It had over 50 000 tanks. There would have been no British forces fighting the Russians. If they would have attacked in a non nuclear fashion, the British army would have lasted 5 minutes.Russia is an enourmous military power as we still see today.Indeed the Nato forces have already said they will not intervene if Russia moves on Ukraine.Britain may have been the tough guy in Creggan in 1972 ,however when faced with a real power, the tough guy act fades quicker than ice cream in the sun.
