In my opinion, Coach McDermott was classy and gracious in defeat. Personally, I think the foul call that essentially ended the game was very thin, but if it had not happened at a crucial moment, we wouldn't be talking about it at all, and McDermott knows this.

We made a deep run, we played hard, but today just wasn't our day. We did our school and families proud. And there's no shame in that, but today we're going to learn from this experience and be better men for it."

Too many big sporting events seem to be decided by refs lately. This “foul” was pretty similar to Eagles “hold” in super bowl. Both decided game. Both should not have been called. Nobody wants to see a ref show. Only people who could be truly happy at those outcomes are gamblers who had Chiefs and San Diego State.

Funny, the defender that committed the penalty against the Chiefs said that it WAS pass interference. So there's that. He was just hoping he could get away with it, just as the Creighton player was hoping it wouldn't be called against him. It affected the SDSU players shot, so therefore it was a good call. It was a hyper focused play, since it was just about the final play of the game, and these Refs get graded. If he didn't call an obvious foul there, he would have been reprimanded and not been allowed to Ref for awhile. That's not how you put food on the plate for your family. Great speech though.

The textbook reads: If you're going to foul, do it right away on the inbound pass. If you don't foul on the inbound pass, then you must force the opposing team to make a shot - WITHOUT making any contact (you don't need to make a serious attempt to block the shot - because with a 30% shooting team, 7 out of 10 shots miss), because a foul will lose the game. Coaching mistake was giving a foul resulting in giving the Aztecs a 1 on 1. Better to foul and force them to inbound instead of putting them on the line. Lucked out on that error, because the foul was a 2 shot shooting foul anyway.

Caden, normally I would tell you to eat some cheese with your whine. But I won’t. The Aztecs lack the Offense to win it all. But they play an excellent defensive scheme, which makes the competitive. Alabama succumbed to their physical style of play. Creighton almost didn’t. But they went cold for several minutes and that did them in. Regardless of your disappointing comment, having followed San Diego Aztecs all season long, I can assure you that, if this game had been played on the West Coast, Aztecs win by double digits. And to conclude, the Aztecs bench is just as good as the Creighton’s starters. In fact, they won the game. You can even look it up.
