Hydrogen is not a fuel source, it's an energy storage system, and not an efficient one compared to diect use of cleanly generated electricity.

Did I miss something here? Making hydrogen from excess solar power has too poor a round-trip conversion efficiency to make it an attractive carrier for energy. Hey, let's use the hydrogen for some higher-value uses, like making chemicals and whatnot. We've identified some 60 million tonnes of uses that could use up that hydrogen. But, well, we're still in the process of figuring out what the market value of the hydrogen would be in all those different uses. We'll get back to you real soon now. Right.
