Chrysoskalitissa - a monastery located about 6 km north of the beach and the island of Elafonisi. It was built in the 17th century. It was abandoned many times throughout its history. In 1944, many of the monastery's buildings were destroyed by the Germans.
The name of the monastery, meaning "golden stairs", comes from a legend that pilgrims must climb 98 steps to reach the monastery, and the last 99th, golden step is visible only to believers.
The monastery is open to visitors, inside there is a museum containing collections of icons, vestments, books and liturgical vessels, as well as an example of a monk's cell. In addition, in separate rooms there is a small folklore museum. 4K aerial photos from a drone.
