Crete E4 hiking (Sougia - Agia Roumeli - Hora Sfakion)

Demanding hike with very tough first day from Sougia to Agia Roumeli, making second day feel like a walk in the park.

Beautiful! I’m hoping to head there soon. Do you know what the rules there are about camping? Can you just camp anywhere you want along the trail?

It was a tough but wonderful experience. In Sougia you will see a lot of people camping. A friend of mine got too tired to finish in Agia Roumeli and camped on the mountain. A lot of people would camp on the south beaches. It will not be a problem.

Yeah, that's a great hike! Only two days? That's tough! Do you have more material to show the first day from Sougia to Agia Roumeli? In the nineties I did most parts of this tour, missing 'only' Tripiti to Agia Roumeli, the most demanding part I suppose.

It was tough indeed. We pushed to reach Agia Roumeli before night fall. Somehow while swimming in Tripiti, all the clips recorded until that point were deleted. (thank you gopro)... It's the reason video starts from Tripiti. The toughest part was the climb after Domata beach towards Agia Roumeli. Right now i'm making the next video "best hikes of Crete" with maps, numbers and videos. :)

Yes, at 1:53 looks like might be a nice flatter area. Looks to above a beach of some sort. KNow the name?

That place is half way the last ascent after Domata beach. You can get to that beach only with water taxi from Sougia or Agia Roumeli.

Can we go from Agia Roumeli to Domata Beach if we have vertigo?

There were some sections that had a big drop. The descent to Tripiti and Domata was a bit steep at some points. I honestly don't know how big a problem it would be.

@@THATGREEKGUY_ As long as the trail doesn't overhang cliffs you should be fine. Going down a steep slope is normally no problem for vertigo, going over a very steep slope, there it is not the same thing. We'll see then, thank you.
