Part 3: Approach/Docking
On Saturday, May 30th, Falcon 9 successfully launched Crew Dragon’s second demonstration (Demo-2) mission from Launch Complex 39A (LC-39A) at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida. This test flight with NASA astronauts Bob Behnken and Doug Hurley on board the Dragon spacecraft initiated the return of human spaceflight to the United States.
Demo-2 is the final major test for SpaceX’s human spaceflight system to be certified by NASA for operational crew missions to and from the International Space Station. With this launch, SpaceX helped initiate the return of human spaceflight to the United States with one of the safest, most advanced systems ever built. NASA’s Commercial Crew Program is a turning point for America’s future in space exploration that lays the groundwork for future missions to the Moon, Mars, and beyond.

They kind of still under earth control even at the ISS... But imagine being trulu away from all insanity, issues, politics, media, liars, and all that defines "humanity" these times.... Just out there , with no plots, no nasty plans...no crazy stories. Just the truth, purity of the Universe, all space. If going out in nature is pure and healing imagine space... The ultimate healing and purifying experience...

@@cole1493 Beyond NASA? Do tell. What are some examples?
@cole1493
@cole1493 4 жыл бұрын
Odysseus Rex I think saying beyond NASA might be a bit much but NASA definetly has not always hold the title of the most space innovation throughout history. Just to start off, the launch of the Sputnik 1 in 1957 by Russia’s at the time soviet space program is what directly started the space race and addded to tensions in the Cold War. The gap that was the obvious in technology of Russia and the US caused great fear and promotion for technological innovation in America. The soviet space program was the first space program to put a man in orbit. The Soviet Union actually held most of the firsts in the early space race, it wasn’t until rising tensions and dissolution of the union for America to leap ahead. The soviet program got the first EVA, first female in orbit, the first space station, and many other firsts. The soviet program was able to put a total of 9 space stations (although not all being completely successful) into orbit from 1971-1986, while NASA only put one, the Skylab, two years after the creation of the Soviet Salyut program. America’s Apollo program and lunar landing definitely showed a victory in NASA but still Russia was not far behind. After the dissolution of the Soviet Union and the creation of Roscosmos tensions between Russia and America dwindled. The iss program is something just to show the unity of space agencies, NASA, Roscosmos, JAXA (Japan), ESA(Europe), and CSA(Canada) and others like experimental bieglow a private American agency. With the help of Russian launches and Nasas shuttle program the iss was slowly pieced together. The first module being the Russian made Zara, the Unity the first American made component, then Zveda another Russian module, then destiny another American made module, then the quest airlock made by Boeing, then the Piris and poisk two Russian airlock modules, then the harmony module being built by a France based company through an agreement between NASA and esa, then tranquility another node that is built by ESA, Columbus made by ESA, Kibō built by japan, the cupola built by ESA, the Rassvet by Russia, Leonardo by Italian space agency, there are many other structural components and robotic arms such as the canadarm built by Canada. These main but not all examples show various space angencies contribution to the iss. Just to show Nasas inferiority, after the cancelation of the shuttle program America just paid to put their astronauts on a Russian rocket. This wasted millions of dollars and is why this recent mission is so important to American space history. I’ll also add those tickets NASA paid for were on the Russian Soyuz, the safest manned rocket in the world. There are many future programs and stations that are also planned to be built in union by the way. Space travel and space innovation shouldn’t be seen as something that has a leader, space should be open to all humans and nothing less. With recent explosion in the private sector of space agencies I’m sure we will see some like spacex contributing a whole lot to humanity and then many more agencies private or national sprout with their own plans. Also might I add these astronauts, cosmonauts, etc live, eat, and sleep together in a piece of metal going about 4 miles a second, if that doesn’t scream together then idk what will.

0-g toilets are some of the most complicated feats of engineering. It's actually insanely hard to design reliable waste-collection/storage apparatuses. And as soon as you hit orbit (and go to zero-g) your intestines no longer have gravity pulling your unabsorbed food down through your digestive tract.... which means, quit literally, as you go to orbit, you get a weird case of something we call: "space diarrhea". I do love the welcome ceremony. But, after the toilet malfunctioned on Demo-2... it still humors me to watch Bob Behnken cross his legs, squeeze his cheeks together, and squirm uncomfortably as he smiles for the camera and tries to hold in his welcome-to-space-turds.

Hey. I am from Russia and I wanna say thanks to our government that they lost the space :) A lot of bureaucratics and self-interests seems more important than nation proud. On the other hand my congrats to Elon and his huge team with this historical day. In the end I try to concentrate on that there are no any countries and question of space is the one for all the humanity.

It sure is...people who complain "whats the point, its just too damn expensive!" simply dont understand how great it is to see the start of next new chapter in space exploration. We really need private companies like SpaceX to provide the equipment to explore the space further and get ppl out there and thats why its so exciting to see, even if you are not American. And ppl who dont understand the idea of space exploration clearly have no passion for science or discovery. Ultimately im really excited about the thought of one day humanity having permanent settlements in moon and even Mars, so thats why its so great to see private company like SpaceX to succeed and their beautiful ship working so well.

@odysseusrex5908
@odysseusrex5908 4 жыл бұрын
@@aerodynamic1440 Yeah, USA is leading everything. For nine years, thanks to our politicians, we have lost our manned space capability. In that time, how many interplanetary space probes has Russia either launched or managed as they conducted their missions? How many space telescopes has Russia launched? How many do you have? How much of the research done aboard the ISS has been sponsored by Russia? How many new rockets and spacecraft has Russia developed in that time? ten years ago, Russia was absolutely the dominant provider of commercial launch services. Who is now? No, for nine years, the fact that the United States lacked a manned space capability made it just barely possible to look at that one thing, which always, naturally, gets the most attention, and pretend that nothing else mattered and Russia was ahead. Well, that has ended now. Not only is the United States still far ahead in all other measures of space activity and achievement, we have a manned space capability again, and it is far superior to Soyuz. It is still not much compared to the Space Shuttle, but it is much better than Soyuz. Furthermore, we are developing four or five other advanced manned spacecraft, the Orion, the Starliner, a manned version of Dream Chaser, possibly a manned vehicle to go with New Glenn, and, most important of all, Starship, which will have far greater capabilities than ever the Shuttle did. And, just to make it clear, NASA and SpaceX are partners. SpaceX is no more ahead of NASA than a horse is ahead of its rider. As Elon Musk said just after the launch, Spacex wouldn't exist without NASA.
@aerodynamic1440
@aerodynamic1440 4 жыл бұрын
@@odysseusrex5908 The space shuttle was a DISASTER they lost 2 of them and killed their astronauts and it was in no way nearly as reliable and useful and good as Soyuz, The Soyuz is superior to Shuttle and probably the new SpaceX stuff because it has nowhere near experience as Soyuz, Yes US is ahead in making probes and Rovers, but Manned Rockets Russia was wayyyy ahead and Still ahead, US couldn't go to space without Russia, not only US but the whole world. In fact everyone needs to learn Russian to go to ISS because most of the stuff their is Russian, USA is not leading again just because they sent humans into space after 9 years, and even before 9 years as I said earlier Shuttle was a Disaster and because of that no one will say Shuttle was nearly as good as Soyuz or even this new SpaceX build...just imagine if it was shuttle instead of Soyuz taking all these astronauts into space...almost all the Astronauts would be dead by now and also extremely expensive so NASA would go bankrupt long ago there is a reason why they retired Shuttle and used superior Russian rockets, NASA also used Russia's rocket engines for their rockets, that explains Russia's superiority in creating rockets and engines, but again yes Nasa and US is ahead when it comes to space probes and Rovers. But Rockets? Not even close. It's sad that NASA still couldn't build one to take humans to space and surprisingly a private company finally after years, made one..which is great.
@aerodynamic1440
@aerodynamic1440 4 жыл бұрын
@@odysseusrex5908 And I don't think creating Rovers is as hard, expensive and Risky as creating manned rockets...Russia was always ahead in that category. The people of US will always say they are the best at this and that, but it takes a slight bit of research to see Shuttle was really a bad vehicle and so they used Russians and who is ahead in what, Russia is way ahead in creating Space stations and Manned reliable rockets , US is good at creating rovers and .....telescopes.
