The whole, you can’t do that on a Mac thing from a long time ago just isn’t a thing anymore. Buttons are in different spaces and menus work differently, other than that this little Mac Mini is a powerhouse for many many years to come

Don't buy 2k monitor. MacOS on arm doesn't support fractional scaling so fonts, borders, etc. are blurred. You need 5k screen but these are hard to find in reasonable price. 4k usually works fine but it's not perfect.

I love it and all, but the only thing I hate about it is the 3.5mm jack is on the front. It’s nice to have on the front for headphones, but I’d probably use it for a speaker aux.

If you code, you should know what's best for you, depending on the amount of resources needed by your projects. M4 is great for general purposes, M4 Pro is even better. Beware of the unified memory limitations, as 16 GB might not be enough.

As a front end developer running things like docker, photoshop and other dev tools at the same time, i took the regular m4 but upgraded to 32gb of RAM. Don't think you need more processing power but at least 24gb RAM is recommended.

Depends. If you have very large code bases then the Pro would speed up your compile times considerably. If you are relatively new or you work on smaller projects, even a base M4 will scream.

guys, Ive been lately obsessed with this mac mini m4, specially because i use a 2013 i-mac. i know its time for an upgrade but defo im upgrading this year. I've seen comments of giving bad reviews of gaming in mac, but do yall think it would run fortnite? im not interested in any other games that need lots of power. I wan't to keep the apple ecosystem.

get a budget pc for fortnite, and get the cheapest m4 mac for everything else. Right now I use a mac mini m2 to stream (yes with obs) and its fine. So im sure the m4 is beyond capable. Oh the m2 also runs minecraft well. Fortnite... not so much

It runs minecraft at the highest settings over 100fps easily, with no fan noise it runs every roblox game at max setting over 120-150 fps i haven’t downloaded fortnite yet on mine but id imagine it’d be able to run it at around 60fps with no problems

The Thunderbolt 5 is kinda useless unless you use an 8k 60hz monitor. This is because the base M4 mini SSD read/write speed is around 3000 MB/s (approx. 24 gbps), which is around the same as Thunderbolt 2 speeds. However, Thunderbolt 5 would be good with an eGPU, but Apple silicon doesn't support these.

At this point it barely matters. I’m not in need of ultra fast processing under heavy workloads lmfao. I watch KZbin, play Civ V, and do super light video editing, the increase in power is something I wouldn’t even notice so why would I care? It’ll be worth upgrading when my current Mini can’t do the newer MacOS updates. So I stand by what I said, the M2 is fine for an average user, the only reason to upgrade is if your a power user, or you think having the newest model is some kind of flex

I’m super excited for 7 actually. If it doesn’t come out on Mac I have a Steam Deck as well, but I prefer the full computer experience for Civ personally. As for the rest, yeah. I do see that some people need the power boost, but that’s a super limited group, and I’m not knocking the flexers lol, I have some tech stuff that I have no use for that I spent way too much money on that I have just because it’s shiny and new lmfao

Actually there are some really powerful miniPCs at that pricepoint, like the Aoostar GEM 12 that (at the time of this writing) comes with Ryzen 7 8845HS , 32 GB RAM, 1 TB SSD and that supports Oculink for external GPUs

@hajjdawood It comes preinstalled with Windows 11 Pro. Regarding speed, it has to be tested to determine actual differences, but it doesn't have such limited storage as the base M4 Mac Mini.

I switched back to Mac a year ago, fed up with Microsoft, Android and all other crap devices that make bold claims but fail in every aspect. I travel a lot and last year i was on a long flight without access to the internet and could not log into my laptop running Windows 11 as it required internet to logon mid flight. Also reboots often to perform updates even if you toggle it off, losing half my work .. found an utility that completely disables updates permamently (WUB). Also i had 2 times in 6 months that an update entirely broken my system, this made my decision very easy to go full Apple. Switched my Android devices with iPhone, im so glad this ecosystem actually works and is years ahead vs any other brand.
