CRHnews - Essex Firefighters injured as Basildon pump crashes en route Hospital

Basildon Fire engine crashes on way to faulty alarm at Runwell Hospital in 1991 - the pump went off the road a mile from the fire station, near Craylands estate, slightly injuring four members of the crew who were taken to Basildon Hospital for a check-up before being released.

Thanks very much for this great video. It's the first and only time i have seen the Scammel in action. It was sold in the mid 1990s to a recovery operator in Somerset and then sold on to one near Shrewsbury and repainted blue.

Just happened to be driving past, really pleased the heroes were not badly hurt, just their pride, but these are the guys who save the lives of strangers, wonderful guys

many reason accidents happen. speed. bad road conditions such as black ice. drivers swerve in front of them. or afew other reason. when driver these units just have to use care & caution. I drove fire trucks before.

Yep, they used to be called RTAs in my day, Road Traffic Accidents, I think that has changed to RTC Road Traffic Collisions, I believe!!!!

Why did this happen? This is a NEVER EVENTthat by right must not be allowed to happen as the fire service is meant to save lives from this kind of thing. This is an act of high treason going against what the fire service exists for and damages the reputation of the fire service. Fire engines & Ambulances must NEVER EVER crash or overturn as they are meant to be totally infallible.

I believe they were all taken to the Bloody Tower and told to be ready for fireworks
