Great work there , Just a Question on your bench grinder the one side is a sander and the other side is used to polish the bat what are you applying on the polishing buff before putting the bat on there

This is a polishing compound. I use an Aluminium (often call 'SS') compound. It comes in a stick a bit like wax but with a harder texture.

Quick question...why did you shave off the spine after cutting off the toe. Wouldn't that just make the new toe weaker in comparison?

There wasn’t much timber taken off, so it wouldn’t have made much of a difference. Kind of personal pretence mate. I’m a bit old school where the spine didn’t run all the way to the toe. I think it allows for a nicer pick up, feel and overall end look of the bat. Personal preference really.

I had a question about cutting the bat down at the toe: does it affect the pick up and balance in a negative way or does it make the bat feel lighter? What is the effect?

Thanks for the question. I had a comment made one another video that it would negatively impact pick up. Here were my thoughts: I've got a regular customer who i shorten all his bats, for two reasons a. to reduce the weight, b. "improve" pick up. "Cutting the toe will completely change the feel" - Not really. If you're taking off an inch or more, then yes. But I took less than a centimetre. This equates to under half an ounce (14 grams). Most batting grips weigh about an ounce, so this impacted pick up less than putting on an extra grip. So while it did impact pick up, it was less than changing grip types. "It will now be bottom heavy" & "may also feel heavier" - Not from the small amount removed from the toe. Removing weight at the toe of the bat, moves the balancing point up the bat. The higher the balancing point is to the handle, the lighter the pick-up will feel. The small amount of timber removed off the toe didn't change the pick up of this bat, replacing the handle did. Handles between manufacturers are different and unless you're taking it back to the original bat manufacture (and they have handles from the same batch) it's almost impossible to get a bat pick-up identical after a rehandle. You can get it very close, but will always be slightly different. Hope this helps.

Can you lengthen a bat?

You can. The only way though is replacing the handle with a longer one. If you try and graft fully onto the bottom it’s really weak and will break easily.
