The UK season is roughly April to September but then you get the Australian, NZ, India etc so you can watch it pretty much all year round

A "bullpen game" is a game in which the starting pitcher pitches no more than a few innings, and the game is mostly pitched by the relievers. Loved your reactions. I'm from Texas. Bored one day, I decided I would watch "cricket" game to see if I could figure it out. I was about as bewildered as you were about our beloved game of baseball! When you "hit a rainbow" that just means you hit a high arcing ball that resembles the shape of a rainbows. A "Bullpen" game. That means your starting pitchers have been used a lot and they are used up, therefor, the manager will need to rely on the "backup or reserve" pitchers who sit in a cage that looks like a bull pen at a rodeo. When the runner got caught in a run down, sometimes if the situation is right the runner will do this on purpose. This will let a runner on second base move to third base and a runner on first base move to second base. Now, by doing this you have just moved two runners up while only sacrificing one out and you have just taken the double play out of play.

3:30 "double and an error" means he got two bases from the hit, and one extra base because the fielder didnt pick up the ball cleanly and he had more time to run to third. so even though he got three bases, it is scored as a double and an error rather than a triple.

This was a great WS game.. The tension was unreal.. Tge pitching and defense off the charts.. The rookie coming up large, the deadline acquisition stabbing a screaming grounder, and the “just another guy” making the catch of the year, to break the hearts of his hometown.. Just amazing..

As you've noticed baseball is filled with colorful slang terminology, which is further broadened because every teams' announcers try to cultivate their own unique style including creating their own lingo. Rainbow is the Astros' announcers call for high looping home runs, and a "yakker" is a curveball

A bullpen is a team’s relief pitchers that come out after their first pitcher is done. A bullpen game means that the starter probably aren’t going to last long so there will be more relief pitchers in the game

3:23 A "double" is when the batter hits the ball and reaches second base safely. On that note, a "single" is when the batter hits the ball and reaches _first_ base safely. ("Triple" = reached third base.) An "error" is when the defense makes a mistake (dropping the ball, making a terrible throw, etc.) that allows the batter to reach base, or advance another base. In this case, the batter hit a double, but was able to advance to third base because the centerfielder failed to pick up the ball cleanly.

Another awful game but enjoying your reactions to these games so far. Just some quick commentary: Game 3 was supposed to played on Halloween but was rained out & moved to the next day. Ironically, the Thursday Night Football (NFL) game is the same night as game 5 (this game)of the WS… in Houston (the Texans) against the Philadelphia Eagles. There’s actually video of the Eagles watching the end of this game in the locker room after beating the Texans. **The 2022 NLDS & NLCS post season games were some of the most entertaining baseball games there’s been in awhile.

6:45 based on the pitch he threw i'm going to assume that a "yacker" means a curveball (slow pitch thats moves downwards as it gets closer to the batter) that is in the middle of the strike zone. usually a pitcher wants to throw a curveball low so the batter is more likely to swing and miss. i've still never heard it called a yacker though😂

Yacker is an old school term for curveball, though has nothing to do with location like you guessed. It's just a nickname for a curveball Yacker, Uncle Charlie, Big Bender, terms you likely know if you're 30+, might know if you're 25-30, but under 25, and certainly under 20 have probably never heard in your life.

The bullpen is an area where pitchers can warm up or practice. Mlb stadiums have bullpens next to/around the field. It's also the area where relief pitchers will chill out and warm up prior to being called into a game. So the term "bullpen" is used, colloquially, to refer to a team's entire relief pitching staff. Typically, a starting pitcher is expected to "eat" the majority of a game's innings. However, a team might be short on starting pitching like the Phillies were. So they employed a tactic called a "bullpen game" where the starter, Syndergaard, would be expected to eat a couple innings and then the majority of the innings would be relayed by the "bullpen." A bullpen game is not ideal. So, in a series, some fans might consider that game a throwaway. It can be and has been successful in past games as it can confuse opposing line ups. But that usually depends on how good the bullpen is. Syndergaard was an excellent starting pitcher, but he has been hampered by injuries the past few years. So he has been used in a more limited role as of late.

9:15 Correct! In this situation the runner did not have to run to the next base, so he had to be tagged with the ball (or a glove containing the ball) to be considered out. When the runner is forced to run to the base, that's when the fielder can just step on the base while holding the ball.

In the first hit of the game ("a double and an error") the batter hit what would normally have been a double (he would have been able to advance to second base before the opposing team could tag him). But the fielder mistook where the ball was going to go (an "error"), which allowed the batter to advance to third before they could get the ball to him.

It's funny to see so many baseball phrases used that we just take for granted as common knowledge, but get completely lost on new comers to the game. 8:46, yes he had to be tagged in that situation as there wasn't a runner occupying the base he vacated. He was free to go to either base. He couldn't be 'forced' out by touching the third base or home plate while holding the ball. They didn't mention it, but Yuli was caught in a 'rundown'. We also used to call it a 'hotbox' as kids.

7:49 After a while, you'll be able to recognize easy fly balls like this one. IF it looks like he hit it high, it's almost definitely an easy out. If it looks like it was a perfect 30 degree angle and it was hit hard, it's probably a home run.

if there is a ball in play and a runner on the base behind a player, then the defense only needs to step on the base that player is heading to. if there is no runner behind a player then the defense needs to tag that player to record an out. hope that makes sense

In the1800's, before it was organized, baseball teams would travel town to town hooking up with other teams to play, "barnstorming", and many of the baseball fields were out in country fields, where there might be some livestock around, hence "coming out the bullpen" could have been a literal thing.

In a reference to the moment at 3:48 - The hit that scored the run wasn't unusual. What was unusual was how close the infield was to home plate that early in the game. They were trying to get a weak ground ball and get the out at home plate. If they had been playing further back, they still might concede the run, but get the batter out, rather than a single that scores a run and the inning continues.

Sadly, Budweiser is an official beer of the baseball leagues. You should watch some straight top tens, highlights, etc. Bullpen games are games played by intelligent pitchers. There's defense (catcher, first baseman, short stop, 3rd baseman and the outfielders & technically the pitcher) & offense is the hitters.

double = 2 bags advancement error is fielding error probably, capturing the hit ball and throwing the ball to first base before the runner can touch the bag which is an out, 3 outs ends the inning for the team and they quit batting and have to take the field until they get their 3 outs on the other team and the cycle repeats itself for nine innings, whoever has accumulated the most runs at that time wins the game, Very basic explanation.
