As an punjabi born in india the 1980s I had the fortune to watch a very strong Sri Lankan team play . 2002 champions trophy co-winner 1996 odi wc winners 2003 odi wc semi final 2007 odi wc final 2011 odi wc final 2015 odi wc quater final 2009 t20 wc final 2012 t20 wc final 2014 t20 wc winners And 12 times asia cup finalits and won 6 of them! The 2014 T20 WC defeat kinda hurts but all of the kids of the 90s and early 2000s are grateful to watch..

Has there been a better performance by a player in the WC final than Aravinda? Starred in ball, field and bat. ये एक ऐसा दौर था जब श्रीलंका अचानक से साधारण से मज़बूत टीम बनकर आयी थी। उस वक्त वर्ल्ड कप का एक भी मैच ये नहीं हारे थे। पहले 10 ओवर्स पॉवरप्ले के होते थे। जिसमें सभी टीम संभलकर खेलती थी लेकिन उस वर्ल्ड कप के बाद श्रीलंका ने पहले 10 ओवर्स में ही फ़ास्ट बैटिंग करके हिस्ट्री को बदल दिया। कप जितने के बाद भी अगले कईं महीनो तक भी श्रीलंका किसी से नहीं हारी थी। मैं 7 वर्ष का था मैच का बहुत शौंक था। हमेशा सोचता था ये टीम कभी किसी से नहीं हारेगी। उस समय जब हम क्रिकेट खेलने जाते थे तो सभी अपनी टीम श्रीलंका ही चुनते थे। जयसूर्या, अट्टापट्टू, अरविन्द डिसिल्वा, रणतुंगा सब एक से एक बैट्समैन थे।

what a day for sri lanka ... i was 20. more than 50 persons gathered to our home to watch this match. some guys came to our home morning and stayed there till next day. there were all ages. from children to very very old male female. more than 50 persons inside home and out side home. most persons bought food and drinks, snacks they were enjoying that day crazy. me and all of them will never forget that day. 1996 march 18.. thank you aravinda and arjuna.. and special thank to australian team for dropping catches..
