Fun fact: I assume most people know this but in this episode during the crikey moment, there was a cut scene and it was supposed to be after Luz goes up on Amity’s balcony, Hunter tries to follow her but Gus and Willow stop him and he asks why and Gus says, “you’ll understand when you’re older”. And Hunter’s like, “But I’m the oldest one here”. And then he starts arguing with flapjack about it. And even after Luz and Amity come out on the balcony, you can see Hunter off to the side with a frustrated look on his face. :3

I love the little hints regarding Luz and Hunter's switch! "Luz" using Hunter's dash/teleport ability, "Hunter" blowing a raspberry at Kiki, Gus having rings around his wrists (indicating he's using an illusion) for most of the fight even though there are no illusions being used against Odalia and Kiki atm; neither "Luz" nor "Hunter" speaking after the bubble shatters and "Luz" fighting with her fists instead of her glyphs! And I think "Luz" even had Hunter's tooth gap at one point. And after the smoke clears, "Luz" looking down at her hands as though bewildered while Gus still has the rings around his wrists, keeping up the spell. Just shows how much thought they put into this and makes the re-watch all the more amazing!

They know that staying wild was one of the main things that defined Eda; and Raine would do anything for her happiness. this is probably why they went to such extremes to keep the promise they made to Luz.

in media in general, especially tv writers just love milking toxic relationships for drama, it's so disgusting and exhausting to watch. Movie sequels also love doing that. It's up there with your beloved heros grow up to be terrible, even abusive parents. It's cheap, lazy drama and I am tired of it.

@@oprime i mean sypha and Trevor in Castlevania have a pretty healthy relationship, especially given the circumstances. they tease each other, but mostly in a jovial way. They have moments of tension, but given the circumstances that's hardly unexpected. They are clearly having an active sex life, though the show hardly uses it for titillation, sex is more often used as a counter point to something else. Deadend paranormal park's barny and his partner are pretty healthy. It does take a lot of effort to find good relationships. Catra and Adora might become pretty healthy going forward, but in the show they only just get together and their courtship was anything but healthy, but then they were raised in a trauma factory. Hopefully Arcane season 2 gives us a healthy relationship between Cait and Vi, even amidst the fallout of the ending. Latest live action stuff i watched is trash in the relationship department, Wednesday's toxic triangle of "love". And then there is Supergirl's endless relationship drama farming, just the epitome of we don't know how to write couples when they aren't having issues or breaking up. Even Alex and Maggie, the longest couple as of where I am in the series seem on the brink of breaking up every other time they show up and just broke up over having children, which is fair.

I am glad there are more but in a way it's also very sad that there aren't MORE healthy ones out in the media. Has it become such a normal thing to have toxic relationships in media that people just accept it as "good"? Because if that's the case, then I worry about the people growing up and thinking that's the way relationships are supposed to be and thus end up in their own toxic relationship. To that end we need more healthy ones to counter them. Yes, it's generally not as exciting to watch in most cases but I believe TOH has proved that it can be as exciting because of the crikey kiss. Lol Dana is a Super Saiyan when it comes to healthy relationships, incredible storytelling, and great animation moments. Look out Steven Spielberg, there is someone who can tug on heartstrings as good as the best movies you've made! Lol

The attention to detail in this show is bloody insane. Post switch, Gus's illusion rings are up the entire time. It's a detail they could have easily just not added in but they made sure to, knowing and respecting the audience's intelligence; if we didn't catch it on the first viewing, then we'd surely catch it on a repeat viewing after knowing the twist. To me it adds to the storytelling and the worldbuilding when they do things like that. They did a similar thing with Raine and their whistling trick in Covens at the Coven Day Parade; we had no context for what it meant and yet they added that subtle detail in anyway, knowing we'd catch it on a repeat viewing. They know us so well 😁

The decision to cancel the show came before s2 was done being made because some executives didn't think the show would be successful enough to warrant the full 3 seasons. I'm sure I've made this comment somewhere else before but, Lumity really is one of if not THE healthiest relationships I've ever seen in a cartoon. I really love the way they take the age old conflict-between-lovers tropes and subvert them with actual positive, healthy behaviors. When Luz is hiding the fact that she "visited" the human realm and Amity knows whats up. Luz CONVENIENTLY leaves her phone behind and Amity finds it. According to the trope Amity should watch the vid, find out Luz is lying and confront her, at which point, Luz gets angry because her privacy was invaded and the two have a spat, made up in the end when they have to come together to beat the episode baddie. But instead of the trope, Amity goes to a mutual friend to ask advice and the opts to NOT invade Luz's privacy, but confronts Luz about it anyway, not from a place of anger, but of concern and maybe a little hurt. She asks Luz to open up to her, instead of accusing her. And the ship is full of those kinds of interactions. So good. Also, I don't think they ever explain Alador the rat.

I love how at the start people are like the queer ship isn't going to happen, then when it becomes clear it's going to it switches to they are going to do it in the finale. Then the ship happens early in season 2 and from there out it just becomes more and more and here we are at a kiss full on the lips with the extra special fluid animation in a rather romantic setting, the open balcony door with blooming vines around them and Luz looking like a dashing rogue. I love to watch people on that journey from tempered expectations after years of queerbaiting to the beautiful excitement every milestone.

The only thing I’m sad about is that I personally prefer slow burn, and cuz of how the show was paced and cancellation, it wasn’t as slow as I’d have liked. But besides that, I really love how things went lol

So... Here's something in this episode that's fairly easy to miss, but it... Well, it supports a headcanon/theory I've mentioned before. When King is talking to Alador on the swingset, he talks about how he's not really one to give dad advice because he never knew his dad. Right after he says that, a gust of wind kicks up, pushes his swing and only his swing, and then immediately dies back down. Neither King nor Alador comment on it or even notice, but... Well. Even though King's dad is long dead, I like to think that he's still looking out for him as a ghost, in whatever way he can. That gust of wind was so specific in its timing and so brief that I really do think that it was him trying to play with his son. I've talked before about how strange Luz finding the light glyph is, and I'd like to point something out about it: Right then and there, Luz finding the light glyph was the best way to protect King. Codes: "Seething seas and puppet strings. He no longer dreams of Kings. As above rush darkened skies. As below his father" "SEEK THE KEY, FEAR THE LOC"

nice theory. Belos has also mentioned that there seems to be a sort of will on the isles that he feels impedes him and favors Luz. Which is funny, because he uses the same idea to control the isles by claiming he's a prophet for this very entity, i wonder if this feeling that the isle had a will of it's own gave him the idea to pass himself of as a prophet of the titan.

Moon magic animated the house w/ the power of friendship, and the wailing star brought books to life, with an emphasis on kids books. Considering the collector, and the fact before those 2 episodes we get Eda’s curse reveal, it feels like the collector had been hinted at for a long time

The most moving thing about the Lumity kiss is not only the kiss itself, it's also inexhaustible love that Amity feels for her Luz ( like in episode 14 when she got mad with her and we all had a heart attack, but after telling her that her dad died and then she understood why she was so bad, Amity forgave her instatly and helped to pick some flowers for him) there is practicly nothing that ever separate them both, they are perfect for each other

Honestly, I think the zoom/cut-away from Eda getting the coven sigil to Raine's reaction is a clever way of emphasizing the significance. By pulling away from showing it, they are treating the branding the same way they would a scene of intense violence - that branding is no less meaningful than, for example, the flashback of Eda attacking Dell. It's a huge deal for her to get willingly branded, so putting it just off-screen treats it like anything else requiring a Gory Discretion Shot. And pulling in to Raine's expression help direct the emotion of the scene along those lines.

So there were a few key animation moments that hinted at Luz and Hunter being swapped! First was when “Luz” teleported to save Willow. Then there was when “Hunter” stuck his tongue out at Kikimora, cuz that’s such a Luz thing to do and not really like Hunter. Then when Kikimora was holding “Hunter” in the Abomitron’s hand, “Hunter’s” lip was curled like Luz’s. And finally, when the other kids were facing the Abomitron, “Luz” had a tooth gap.

Obviously something like an eye in a mirror in the background would have been foreshadowing that, so I say the snapdragon idea is likely the one that the crew actually implemented.

I think he's been able to spy on people given how he mentioned not having been able to find king because of the symbol on his neck, if he couldn't see anything besides the 2 mirror's surroundings that doesn't seem to make much sense imo.

Ok so some things i think you missed that hinted that luz and hunter switched places- 1. "Luz" directly pushes willow aside using the gold dash move that flapjack is able to do with hunter 2. When kikimora held "hunter" up to use as a shield and got willow to stop, you can see luz's lip thing on hunter 3. When gus used the illusion to make everything dark, you can see luz now has a tooth gap for a second Thess could be animation errors but other things i noticed was how hunter and luz kept having the toothgap appear and disappear between the two

What we know of the Collector, they were also called the Grand Huntsman, we are certain the figure that turned the Owl Beast into a scroll like a sealing demon scroll So maybe they collect scrolls and books of their victims like trophies (Predator only still alive and trapped in scrolls), when i first heard their name I thought of my own character The Doll Collector who was inspired by a few anime and Star Trek types as well as Marvel's collector; in my case my Doll Collector *being renamed the Mistress of Dolls thanks to finding out a serial killer book series is called Doll Collector and for a related reason*, mine is an eldritch fairy queen type entity who turns people she fancies into living dolls to populate her pocket dimension the Doll House; the book series I came across is a serial killer who taxidermies people into dolls. But I am thinking of something I can't remember, some comic book character who used to seal people into books, or shrink people into jars...there are a lot of these. But the Collector seemed like they were killing Titans and their followers keeping the skulls like trophy hunters but then they turned the Owl Beast into a scroll.

Obligatory fake spoilers (which are becoming increasingly harder to come up with as you get closer and closer to being caught up): The "mundane" date in the human world was great, particularly the hijinks that came about from Luz and Vee getting mixed up. She was also there on a date with the fortune-teller friend she made at camp, but since they also thought Vee was Luz, well, you can imagine the comedy that ensued

Requested bad dad joke: you know something really odd? Numbers that aren’t divisible by 2. 😏 There were a couple animation errors that had the fandom speculating SO HARD between this and King’s Tide. First is that Steve’s moles are in the wrong place when he’s putting the sigil on Eda’s wrist. The second is when the airship lands and Eda messes with her hood, we get a flash of Eda’s wrists and they forgot to add a sigil. SO MANY QUESTIONS about whether Steve was actually an imposter, or feeding into the idea that Eda didn’t actually get a sigil… but nope, those were just animation errors. They only have so much time & money to fix animation errors, so sometimes even when they catch them they can’t get them fixed. Between so much of this episode’s budget going towards the kiss and these being rather minor, they were left in.

i don't think any of us went into this cartoon expecting genocide and colonization 😅 didn't make it into this edited reaction, but i love the moment where luz yells at kikimora and protects hunter. such a wholesome moment between them it's so sweet how much they care about each other now. + idk if it was just me, but i was actually REALLY relieved to find out it was luz going to belos instead of hunter. because well. she's the main character so she's probably safe? if it'd been hunter, we know the only thing on belos' mind is killing him. plus luz seems to adapt well to situations and hunter would probably freeze up upon seeing belos again and not be able to fight back, or at the very least not fight as well as he normally would.

Yeah, Eda has developed a lot as a mom, but then again, she was always awesome- Eda in episode 2 to dumb kid #1: who are you? Eda at the end of episode 2: risks her life for dumb kid #1. Eda in episode 14: those are MY dumb kids! Eda in episode 18: risks her life to save her dumb kid #1 again. Eda now: cool mom/aunt vibes at 100/10 You can see that she's always been caring and loving, but you can also see the development and I love her. 🥰

I love how you freaked out about the characters explaining the plan and I was freaking out when watching this because of them having that heartwarming moment together as a family and having Raine promise to keep Eda safe. Another storywriting 101 is never have characters promise to see each other, say they love each other, or say "I don't know/ wouldn't know what I'd do without you" or else someone is gonna die. You also don't make promises like Raine did because that is asking circumstances to mess up their ability to keep that promise (by either someone preventing them from protecting Eda or them dying and not being there to protect Eda). So, yeah, when I watched that scene, I was screaming to my friend about "NO! DEATH-FLAG! NO NO SO MANY DEATH-FLAGS! STOP TALKING, STOP WAVING DEATH-FLAGS!"

As Above Rush Darkened Skies, As Below His Father-" only one more to go! And hey, you made it to the Crikey episode!!!! And while Odalia IS just all around horrible it seems, Alador just, kind of let it happen for years because he just didn't pay them any attention really. And yes, a lot of that was being overworked, but it doesn't excuse everything, imo. But at least he's trying to do better. Yeah, Belos's spell is intended to kill everyone with a sigil, which is EXTRA messed up considering he even wanted all the school kids to get one.

I don't know. For me I find Odalia distasteful, but i have a seething hatred for people like Belos. Just thinking about how many lives he destroyed and scarred, the untold suffering he has caused and the depths of his cruelty and he still thinks himself the saviour. It makes me sick. Odalia is a pos, but she is a mundane kind of evil, she needs a Belos to really give her the opportunity to do harm, there are more of her, then of Belos, but it takes a Belos to make her bloom. She is the SS officer, or more appropriately the collaborating and benefitting industrialist, to Belos' Hitler.
