Chuck: Galleotti is a Professor at NYU. He is giving an academic presentation. He is paid with a free lunch or a glass of wine or coffee. Given the subject matter, naming his sources (who themselves are members of the corrupt power structure) is problematic. If you want to know more about the Russian kleptocracy, there are tons of sources out there. My personal favorite is Karen Dawisha's book, Putin's Kleptocracy. It is very meticulously researched. Also, the website of Russian corruption fighter Aleksei Naval'nyi is also published in English. Google it. You seem to have trouble believing that the Putin regime is corrupt and degenerate from Putin himself all the way down to village officials and that this corruption is a system of rule. You shouldn't, because it is an objective fact.

If one wants names, read Karen Dawisha's "Putin's Kleptocracy" which gives dozens of names of Putin's crooks.

If Leonardo DaVinci were alive today, he would probably be poor and an unknown. His art and science discoveries would be the property of Amazon, Google and Facebook and they would collect all the gains of his efforts because he clicked "I agree".

Lacks individual incidents. Lacks dates, lacks names, lacks bio background of the names and give the dates. No naming of the names of the actual police officials who are in cahoots with the gangs, no naming the gang members.

+colin moore I suppose the Russian bribery and corruption is so extensive that discussion of Russia today can be dismissively general like this speaker does, as he gives no details, no names, no dates, no incidents, and it presumes the audience knows ample details of the current daily corruption and colluding of Russian officials with their gangs and so forth. You just have to trust his generalities, and presume the evidence is so extensive and so presumed of the audience, that you as an outsider audience member must presume there is countless evidence. "Fire inspectors always expect a bribe... Fire inspections every 5 years......they started charging [bribes] 5 times as much....." but no dates, no city mention, etc, etc. I mean a whole lot more journalism or research to make really these conclusions. He may be right, but he's not one to be giving names and dates and history details. I'd agree this talk is not something one would ever order students to listen to, as it lacks names, dates, officials' names, business' names, etc.

How much was this speaker paid for this talk? If all he was doing was just confirming current Russian corruption and organized crime collusion at the highest levels of Russia today, then he could have summarized that in 1 minute. Why waste paying this speaker 1 hour and 30 minutes talk for these generalities which could be reduced to 1 sentence or 1 paragraph. All he's saying, is that at the time of this talk, corruption and disfunction is a problem in Russia, so businessmen and others doing various matters in Russia, beware. Total lack of names, dates, recent incidents, this speaker's ability to even give details is horrible.
