That minute Vic sits in silence thinking "I'm about to do something i never thought I'd do" was so powerful. Then as soon as he said it the floodgates opened. One of my all time favorite shows.

He was an idiot to do it. There was no proof he committed any of those murders and other crimes, just Shane's hearsay. That's no kind of proof at all. Wouldn't hold up in court.. He could have just confessed to taking a cut of drug money a few times, and saved himself from Olivia's wrath.

The feds' realization that they've made a deal with Satan incarnate is one thats entirely too common in their practices. Informants are their bread and butter. They were entirely unprepared for what vic had for them. I love that level of detail. The shield has the best pilot and finale combo episodes by far.

The constant takeaway from fans is "How awesome Vic is" but he made some COLOSSAL blunders leading up to this. Mentioning the bar to Dutch. The idea that Corrine couldn't possibly screw him over never once crossed his mind. Emolia speaks for herself. And thinking for one second that he'd ever work in the field again after this like the Immunity deal was going to be a nice reset switch on everything totally blew up in his face. He's a total bum in the finally. Got exactly what he deserved.

Sure he made mistakes but he was still incredibly smart for most of the show. Easily the smartest member of the team. Lem was too nice, Ronnie lacked leadership qualities and Shane was the biggest dumbass (caused 90% of the problems) Vic usually had crazy plans and and manipulated tons of people with no problems, even his ending is better than what the others got
@LenGott8345
@LenGott8345 3 ай бұрын
Yeah, Vic stumbled quite a bit but up until the Armenian Money Train it wasn't anything he couldn't tidy up. Once that blew up and the team basically splintered as a result of it, that was it. Lem was the conscience of that crew. His death hit Vic the hardest and finding out that Shane did it, complicated things quite a bit. They couldn't just end him with the knowledge that he could easily sink Vic and Ronnie with a confession. But as Vic so noted to Shane in their last conversation, his biggest downfall was thinking he was better than Vic when he wasn't. Vic's problem was believing that after all he did, his family understood and loved him in spite of it. He was dead ass wrong in the end. The confession by Vic was him releasing years of what he carried around and compartmentalized. In the end, Shane was exposed as the weak link. In the end, Ronnie went down for the mistake he was too smart to make. Sorta. Claudette getting the satisfaction of seeing Vic leave The Barn disgraced, probably provided some solace for arresting him for all he did.

@hal560
@hal560 Жыл бұрын
I think it was a fairly realistic plea when you factor in that it nailed another cop (Ronnie) who, in the eyes of the law, was just as bad as Vic, even though we the viewer know he was arguably the least involved. She also likely had no inkling that Vic was as atrocious as he was. I think she expected him to confess to selling some drugs stolen from dealers or benefitting financially from his relationships with the underworld. Instead he straight-up admits to premeditated, cold-blooded murder of a police officer from the beginning of his confession and possibly makes her realise she underestimated who she was giving immunity to. We see how shocked she and the man behind the mirror are when he admits to killing Terry. Had she suspected the level of violence Vic was involved in, she probably wouldn’t have offered such a generous deal. She was probably more willing to grant such an immunity deal because she knew the job she was forcing Vic to enrol in was a greater punishment than prison (desk job with one ten-page single-space report a day) and that if Vic couldn’t perform well enough in the job, he’d lose it and therefore go to prison for violating the terms of his agreement. Basically, it’s not quite as insane as it sounds and it probably set Vic up for prison anyway.

I just realized that with Vic confessing so much wrong doing in his career that almost all of his previous arrests will be able to appeal their convictions at the very least. Now the DA's office is going to have to retry a lot of his previous arrests. So not only would he be making enemies with all of the cops at the Farmington precinct house but also in the district attorneys office.

I don't think Vic needed to tell them that, they wouldn't have found out about most of his crimes, not even the murder, but I think there was just enough of the good cop left that Vic didn't want to get away with it. So now he has his deal, he has immunity and his pension, but that's it. For the next three years while his deal is good he'll be put in a cubicle processing the least important papers they have while the ICE Supervisors try and find some way to void the deal, his wife and kids are gone, he has no more friends, and his career as a cop is done.

Not really sure. It doesn't really say whether that is just three years of guaranteed employment and then reverts to standard civil service rules for continued employment, or whether he has to work for them for three years after which he is free to work elsewhere.

@@lucasgordon1551 😄 I was just being sarcastic. I do however think that ideally police, military, fire department should be granted certain authorities that regular citizens shouldn't have. They should also be given some leeway to maneuver outside of standard operating procedure imo and that's what makes this series outstanding. How much authority and flexibility do we give these public servants who are entrusted to protect us all? It's a fine line and highly contentious among the populace. Now of course this doesn't mean I advocate for cops personally lifting drug dealers stashes to re-sell on the black market, beating truly innocent victims for information, or robbing and murdering others like Vic and the Strike team did, but I think this question in particular made this series one of the best shows on television.

@@thaimuayshoo1171 I like how you watch a show where you see the dangers of police thinking they're above others and illegally arresting many people and committing many offences by "maneuvering out side of standard operating procedure" and you think they should be allowed to. Give them an inch and they make a mile.

@@stephenswift9896 If you asked 100 people exactly how they think police should behave regarding "standard operating procedure", you'd undoubtedly get 100 different answers. Are you an anarchist, do you believe the police shouldn't exist at all? Those who cannot keep the violent criminals, mentally insane, & other dangerous predators to society at bay get ruthlessly conquered & exploited. Just because police today are mostly just minions of a corrupted state does not prove that they should be abolished, even if the legalities behind their codes & conduct should be altered drastically. You also cannot eliminate group hierarchies, which naturally entails some people holding more influence/power/authority over other people by default. What's your solution?

"How much memory has that thing got?" Stunning end to an amazing scene. The expression on the agent's face when she realizes what's happening is too good. For all the people gushing over Vic's honesty, please remember, he's the bad guy. You're empathizing with a narcissistic sociopath who murdered his best friends without a moment's hesitation, or second of sleep lost, to save is own neck. The man is not admirable in any way. He is, however, a fantastic character, and Chiklis turned in a great performance.
