In this episode, we make an attempt to de-radicalize American Seniors and Geriatrics by showing them the importance of a butterfly sanctuary and that sometimes a butterfly sanctuary is JUST a butterfly sanctuary, and NOT a front for a human smuggling operation or child abduction/baby-blood-drinking front.
Together we can take steps to de-radicalize American grandparents and save them from the propaganda machine of Tucker Carlson (the talking walnut) and other notorious rightwing media outlets.
If you have a geriatric American that you are worried has fallen victim to the right-wing media machine of unsubstantiated fear, falsely-fueled anger/vitriol and fear, don't be afraid to ask for help. Dial 1-888-OLD-FART to be directed to a repository of resources available for those concerned about the old and retired and their online activity.
Your contributions support this content. It sounds clichéd, but it's true. Whether it's travel expenses, vehicle repair, or medical costs for urushiol poisoning (or rockfalls, beestings, hand slices, toxic sap, etc), your financial support allows this content to continue so the beauty of Earth's flora can be made accessible to the rest of us in the degenerate public. At a time when so much is disappearing beneath the human footprint, CPBBD is willing to do whatever it takes to document these plant species and the ecological communities they are a part of before they're gone for good.
Plants make people feel good. Plants quell homicidal (and suicidal!) thoughts. To support Crime Pays But Botany Doesn't, consider donating a few bucks to the venmo account "societyishell" or the PayPal account email crimepaysbutbotanydoesnt@gmail.com...
Or consider becoming a patreon supporter @ :
/ crimepaysbutbotanydoesnt
Buy some CPBBD merch (shirts, hats, hoodies n' what the shit) available for sale at :
www.bonfire.co...
To purchase stickers, venmo 15 bucks to "societyishell" and leave your address in the comments.
Plants ID questions or reading list suggestions can be sent to crimepaysbutbotanydoesnt@gmail.com
Thanks, GFY.

South Texas is my home. There’s also a place called Quinta Mazatlan in McAllen for birds. It used to be mostly agriculture and has turned into quite a bit of sprawl. South Texas is known for having “winter Texans” so lots of geriatrics in the winter. They used to just stay at the pizza buffet for 12 hours but I guess now they’re shutting down butterfly centers. Shame. We’ve always hated them.

Liberals have their own blend of nutbags, too. I don't care if someone's politics agree with mine or not so long as they're not a dick and they can shut up about it and not proselytize. The saddest thing about American culture these days is that people think screaming at each other into the void will do anything. All it does is drive engagement for the conflict algorithm.

@@CrimePaysButBotanyDoesnt”liberals” who cheer on censorship, lockdowns, forced medical procedures, sanctions, and war are not liberals but totalitarian fascists. At least right wingers usually have a slight libertarian streak, as opposed to the vapid authoritarianism of liberals. Left vs right is political illiteracy. There’s left and right, but far more important is the authoritarian/libertarian axis of the quadrant graph which is the political scale. Im a libertarian leftist, a civil libertarian and non statist, aka anarcho syndicalist. I have much more in agreement with right wingers than liberals. Liberals are the worst of the worst. Thank you! This was a gem! I live in Alaska and after my divorce, I moved in with my mom. She had a garden full of purchased seeds and delphiniums. I came armed with local seeds and have transformed her beloved garden. We now have a very happy community of several species of butterflies and bees. I had collected so many seeds her driveway is now a garden as well. It’s really interesting how the dominant plant changes every year.

My mother used to blame the goldenrod for her allergies (she's allergic to basically everything) and tore a whole bunch out of her front yard. Going to tell her it's good for the bees and butterfly and maybe she'll leave it alone. This is up in eastern canada with some rough wet winters and it grows in ditches so clearly it's a hardy bastard to have such a wide range. Interesting stuff, as always.

The Florida Native Plant Society has lots of welcoming and knowledgeable and hardworking members. And Florida needs a lot of love to push back against the tumor that is industrialized ecocide so that people (or investment firms) can buy up cheap homes and leave them vacant for rea$ons. It is monstrously horrifying to see the shifting baselines of newcomers snuffing out the voice of those who have witnessed absolute hell on earth. The Villages is one such example of hell...just rows of soulless...eh hem... I could go on...this is about love...love of things being lost and still here...like a beloved mayfly that you know will probably die before you will and you just love them...you love nature...the diversify and the beauty and quality of life that peace brings...and you cherish it for even the fleating moment it is here. The nut jobs won and they will get what they want...dominance of a barren wasteland of hate and not enjoying their time left on this planet while dooming their children. Oh yeh #stophumanity

I'm very lucky to have access to a remnant of old growth forest to see native plants of my area, but my man Joey lets me see native plants from all over the world, and he's not afraid to get the Fox News Grandpas mad at him either. Great combo, great video

They are my idols! I've probably got 50 different native wildflowers growing in my suburban Tennessee cul-de-sac lot. And a few crack plants, as well as noxious weeds like thistle for the nectar fiends. I've lured in rare birds and long-tailed skippers on a regular basis for a few years. As a 4-year sober alcoholic, I found wild plant identification and collection/ propagation to be an addicting replacement.. Thanks for another banger video!

Yay, David! Well done! Who do you find useful for native plant info in TN? I follow a tiny home builder/community developer's channel in Newport, and I keep leaving comments reminding them to use natives in their future landscaping. You could be a great resource for them!

A butterfly sanctuary was shut down because of qanon? Cancel culture is alive and well. Remember when America was great? Nah, me neither 😂

I understand that important habitat was dozed in pursuit of the vanity wall too. Brilliant plan, be such a denuded wasteland, nobody wants to be there 😔 I've gotta speak for non-pain seniors, I'm growing & rescuing where needed lotsa natives. I've had Zebras this spring! Some beautiful stuff there, a day in plant heaven!

Thanks for this video, this was really informative. I'd heard about the insanity with the right wingers trying to shut this place down, so it was nice to put a visual to match up with the meme.

I just saw this cool dude on Wired talking about plants. I was like who is this 🤡 trying to be like Joey S. Just bc he has a cute face and sorta talks like you but if u were at a job interview. Turns out it is you. Never saw ur face before. PS; we lost our grandma to Fox News last year. We tried everything but she was too far gone.

The old folks do like something to get angry about. My gran was pre-internet so she just fantasized that the people across the road kept breaking into her house and stealing cooking ingredients out of her larder.
