Funny, I just visited Chicago, Michigan Ave, and Grand. The police were on every corner, and the homeless were not allowed to loiter. My girlfriend and I felt very safe. The subway was less clean but still better than the trains in San Diego. I know San Diego very well, and it's a shame I can't feel safe with my partner and son there. California is falling apart. I was born in Santa Cruz in the 70s. I last visited for a family funeral last summer. That place is trash, too. Get it together California!

Maybe a year ago, I witnessed a transient verbally assault a young woman in front of the Star of India, across from City Hall. She had been jogging and stopped to take in the sunset. I had stopped there with a friend who is disabled and wanted to go for a walk. When the much larger man became agitated, I tried to call 9-1-1 and got a recording, no answer. I then got out of my vehicle and the suspect retreated. I searched a 2 mile radius and could not find a cop in sight to file a report! I'm a woman and almost got killed once trying to stop an abduction in LA, so it is definitely very scary out there everywhere.

I quit my job because they kept telling me to go Downtown, and at the same time stated "Your Safety is our #1 priority". I've seen stabbings, break-ins, and have walked in human feces. These people who live downtown are paying $2500 - $3500 a month for a STUDIO. If I lived downtown it wouldn't matter how much it costs, I would break my lease and move somewhere safer. I wouldn't go to a Padres game with all the homeless in the area. I've driven downtown late nights on the weekends. It's pretty dead down there. Use to be 1000's of people every weekend going to the bars. I guess they all drink in PB and North Park now. It really is sad government is allowing this to happen for so long. These Zombies need to be jailed and forced into mental hospitals.

It got really bad during the pandemic. I was afraid to walk alone after 7 pm. The smell is always horrible, crazy folks run the streets freely, and it feels like the residents' rights are just to pay taxes and shut up. I was compassionate towards the homeless problem when I moved in, and I was just bitter when I said: "good bye".

100% agree!!! I just moved out of downtown a few months ago. 3 weeks before I moved out, a homeless guy stabbed a bunch of people right around the corner from me. My high rise didn't even have a legit door man- they all chill on their phones, no vigilance at all. Not to mention not armed or ready for anyone dangerous to walk in the building. One day I walked to blue bottle to get coffee and a homeless guy was pacing back and forth carrying a thick stick of wood with nails sticking out of it.....

Sorry, but not really. This is a safety issue. This isn't something that anyone voted for but is a sign of a long term issue. This didn't happen overnight. In the 1980s Regan closed sanitariums. This guy we see in this video is mentally unstable. Yes, he also happens to be homeless, but it's his aggressive and dangerous attacks that cause a bigger problem that should be properly handled. He will injure or kill someone. There are many homeless people, women and children..they are not running around with a knife, they are not threatening people with an air gun. Label the issues appropriately before sticking this mentally ill guy with people that are simply homeless and not dangerous. There is a true difference. So many people who don’t live here always talk about our state. We are popular even amongst those that are bitter & jealous. It never occurs to me to talk about another state. For example, I don’t ever talk about the state of Nebraska because I don’t live there, but here are a bunch of people who don’t live here in Ca making comments. Residents downtown can reach out to Downtown Partnership to report and ask for clearance as well as an escort to your car if needed. They can act as first responders to clear an area and call PD if needed. They've been such a great service and I've used them a few times already.

Just sad that the state of our homeless population has blown up to this degree. We had a problem years ago that was never fully addressed - so here we are today. It also doesn't help that people are bused here from other states. CA is such an inviting state to come to for all the free perks provided. I know other states are facing their share as well. We should help them through their drug addiction to get sober and get a job. Free help should be temporary unless you have some form of physical disability or are up there in age. And I mean a disability where you physically are unable to work - I am jot referring to the fact that you get stressed because you have to work for minimum wage. That is not a disability.

The guy we are looking at is dangerous. You see him? He is not simply suffering from addiction, this guy has a serious mental health condition. It is terribly unsafe. If this man had a real gun people would be getting shot. All the flowery good things you have planned to fix our problem will not help the thousands that are a true threat and suffer mental illness. He needs a sanitarium. Many people need a sanatarium for mental health help. Identify the problem in the video properly. Then, we can actually help the people appropriately. Yes, the great stuff suggested works on the proper problem. This guy doesn't have a homeless problem that is dangerous. He has mental health problems and happens to be homeless. I would bet $1,000 that he is the type of coworker no one wants. No one would hire that guy, I wouldn't. He is dangerous.

Elected officials are largely responsible for the quality of life. Their policies, legislation, and political agenda shapes the world of the voters. Voters need to elect candidates who respect, value, and protect the backbone of any community---the law abiding, hard working taxpayer. It is these people that support the community. The homeless mentally ill, criminals, and drug addicts are noxious elements that need attention. The deterioration of mostly Democrat controlled cities will continue because the rulers allow dissolute and criminal behavior. Money should be spent on mental health facilities and prisons. Being soft and nice brings havoc and despair.

This is going in up in North County, too. But, very rarely do I see people who appear to be drug addicted. What I do see is people with disabilities, the elderly and families - more so than addicts. Granted there should be more drug, alcohol and mental health resources, I am not denying that but when you pull into a parking lot after sundown and it's full of elderly people sleeping in their cars, families in vans and people with walkers in bushes, not bothering anyone but sleeping, then we have a economic and/or resource problem moreso than a drug problem. Hell, I've seen a man sleeping in his car, day after day, then putting on a uniform and going into the mall to work. These people are simply just trying to survive in most cases. I've paid my taxes, I've been a productive member of my community, yet I've been priced out of my own town- and most likely will be priced out of the one I moved to soon. I hope and pray I don't end up living in my car, like I've seen so many other's do. And their numbers are rising. It's inhumane! And shame on this news report for not reporting the whole story and the full truth! Way to edit for agenda there, KUSI news!

Dude I live where the reporters are standing in this video. Whatever you're seeing is not what's happening here. 95%+ in this area of downtown are on drugs and having conversations with themselves, damn near every one of them. I would know, I live right here, not you. I honestly can't think of the last one I saw out here who was sober, half of them are passed out on heroin/opiates and the other half who are awake are either screaming at all hours or taking to themselves, I see many of them arguing with themselves. Something tells me you don't even live here because nobody in my entire building would dispute my 95% claim

The shelters are full, the section 8 voucher list is closed and those who are in it have a 10 year wait, the government affordable housing lists are closed and an 18 year wait for one of those. So where exactly are "those people" supposed to go? Homeowners think having more money gives them more rights. I hope Giorgio especially ends up on the streets one day because that's the only way that sociopath might learn some empathy. Shame on all of you.
