Texas was very talented and gritty. Alabama just wore them down with stout defense and a very strong running game. Props to Texas. That team was littered with talent. Congrats to Alabama on what was the beginning of their 2nd dynasty period in my opinion and several more national championship teams to come. I feel two plays cost Texas this game #1 That dumb play call Mack and Greg Davis called that resulted in a turnover and 7pts for the Tide and the other one QB Garrett Gilbert’s sure fire TD pass dropped in the end zone from Texas WR .

@@tudevoid No Guarantee that it would. Colt went out pretty early. Bama at this time was a different team. They were designed to just wear out teams by running it down their throats. @@Fultonfalcons86 Most coaches understand the fact that almost no lead is safe until you get to the last 2 minutes of the 4th quarter & you have the ball on a 1st &.10. Look at what Cam Newton & Auburn did to Bama in 2010. Winning by 4 TD's going into the 4th quarter & still lost. Idk, why or how it happens BUT ever since I was young, I've almost always known when Bama was going to lose & manage to not watch the game because of it. Because Auburn had a chance at a Natty, I knew Bama was going to lose that game. The 2 Ole Miss loses, I was just busy & didn't see the games. Same with the loss to "Johnny Football" & aTm. But that loss to Urban & Ohio State & the 2nd Natty against Clemson, I had no doubt Bama was going to lose both of those games & I made sure I was busy during both games so I wouldn't be tempted to watch them lose. And the 2017 Auburn loss, I knew that one too, & I thought it was going to put Bama out of the playoff too. I had stopped paying attention til I heard Bama & Georgia was both in the Natty. And that one, I had no doubt Bama would win. I don't think Georgia has ever beaten Nick Saban at Alabama. And if they did, it was in his first 3-4 years. 2007 or 2010.
@kennethdeanmiller73243 жыл бұрын
@Tim Polcyn Nope. And to be honest, glad I missed it! Idk what it is, but I always seem to NOT be watching when Bama loses. I was out & about trying to accomplish some things, & I tried to watch it with the CBS app on my phone. But the stupid app would show commercials just fine, no problem. But then during the game it would stop during the middle of each & every play. I could watch commercials & the beginning of plays but I didn't get to see the end of any plays. Even with a fast wifi it would do the same crap. But anyway, that's one of the main reasons I watch KZbin. Is cuz I missed the game & want to see it. Don't think I'll be reviewing this one though. BUT a friend told me he was watching & said in the second half Bama had gotten 1st & goal at the 3 yard line & threw all 3x's. I didn't see the game so I have no idea WHY they wouldn't choose to run the ball in that situation. But if they passed 3x after having a 1st & goal, that is on O'Brien I would think. And in my honest opinion, that is horrible play calling when you have Robinson & a massive offensive line! And if they score a TD in that situation instead of a Field goal, that's the difference in the game. However, with Saban talking about the fact the Aggies just lost 2 games in a row & it being a "trap game"... Saban IS AN INCREDIBLY SMART MAN!!! Maybe, Nick knows this team is NOT determined enough to win a Natty or even a SEC Championship. Maybe, he saw them losing somewhere along the way, & in seeing it, figured that MAYBE if they lost NOW, the team might grow enough determination & balls to go the rest of the season undefeated, in thinking that, he sort of pushed them in that direction & at the same time threw Jimbo Fisher a bone. Plus, there is also the probability that the Aggies lost their last 2 games before Alabama cuz they were preparing to play Alabama the whole 3 weeks. Idk if I believe any of that myself, but I do know that I had HOPED that this team COULD go undefeated & finally give Saban & Alabama a 29 game winning streak & then maybe more next year BUT I knew in my heart this team would NOT be able to do it. Maybe this is the year that Georgia finally comes thru & wins a Natty. I actually thought that when they upset Clemson in the opening game. But Bama's close call at the Swamp, I was thinking maybe that would light a fire under the teams arse' but evidently it wasn't enough. They better watch themselves cuz the rest of the schedule ain't an easy one. And Auburn ain't going to be a pushover at home, especially with a QB that's already won & lost an Iron Bowl.

That is the most honest response to this game that I have ever heard from a Texas fan. All those that say Texas would have won for sure don't accept the dynamics of the game and how all the different scenarios with or without Colt would play out. I completely agree with you here. With Colt, Texas' chances of winning go way up, without a doubt. But victory was by no means a guarantee under those circumstances and the fact is we will simply never know for sure because he did get hurt and taken out of the game.

That Texas D came to play. With the early Bama turnovers, if Colt was playing it probably would have been 14-0 or 10-0 at worse. The playoff before halftime doesn’t happen. Bama was 1-10 on 3rd down. Texas was sacking McCelroy left and right. If Colt was in there extending drives they wouldn’t have been so tired. They finally broke down when the offense couldn’t do anything and they defense was on the field so much.

I think a little differently. Texas defense was completing shutting them down at first and dominating upfront. The opening drive while Colt was in Alamaba was not ready for the tempo or the accurate passing of McCoy. The lead would have been bigger that 6-0 which would have forced Alamaba throw the ball and that wasn't not their strength.

He got hit at the wrong, or perfect depending on who's side you're on, place. Colt has been semi prone to injury his entire football career and always ran, so it's not likely that Colt would've been injured at any time during this game. That being said, how can Bama fans truly believe they would've won with Colt playing. Texas was driving and going to score one way or another on that first drive and there was no doubt Texas was going to do it all night long if he didn't get hurt. Congrats to Bama. I'm a "what if" kind of guy, but it puts wonders in all Longhorns fans minds on this game when we only lost by 3 with a true freshmen QB with very little experience.

The New York Giants were able to win the Super Bowl in 1990 with Jeff Hostetler after Phil Simms got knocked out with a season ending injury. The Giants however weren't some pussy ass spread offense team that relied mostly on the talents of the QB position to win games and had a reliable rushing attack. Balance is key. @Braydon Wilson 2 years ago Ole Miss did the same thing to Alabama on the first drive and then Alabama blew them out. It happens a lot early in games. also Bama went super conservative because they had a big lead. If Mccoy wasn't hurt then Bama doesn't have a big league and therefore doesn't take their foot off the gas and go conservative. Texas MIGHT have won but no way you can say it would have been a blow out.

@Braydon Wilson First off you don't know that they wouldve scored touchdowns both times. you act like they went from their own 10 all the way to the Alabama 10 before he got hurt. They had only gone 26 yards and 16 of them came thanks to a missed tackle by Woodall. Thats not running it down the defense's throat. 2 passes completed for an average of 4 yards, a 2 yard run banged up the middle for a first down and then 1 big run thanks to a missed tackle.
