Episode 1: Red Sea Rising
The Horn of Africa, long an arena of great power competition, today sees a new rivalry playing out on its shores. Gulf countries and Turkey are vying for allies, influence and physical presence in the Red Sea corridor. They are injecting resources, but also exporting rivalries in ways that could destabilise fragile politics in the region.
Alan Boswell is joined by Elizabeth Dickinson, our Senior Analyst for the Arabian Peninsula and formerly a reporter for publications like Foreign Policy and The Economist. On this week’s episode, they discuss the risks of Red Sea rivalries and also the opportunities.

Let me correct you Somaliland is not a separatist state the unification with Italian somaliland failed miserably so we stepped out of this failed union to determine our own independence and sovereignty. We don't need people coming over fighting their wars on our turf. What we need is genuine investment and development of the region.

Extremely limited knowledge on the soft and hard power of Eritrea and its influence in the region.Yet this shows one that we do our job w low profile and turn things into our benefits.

??? Please elaborate. I am studying the Red Sea. Would you say Eritrea or Djibouti has more "power" in the region right now? And, does China have a role in this?

Get your facts straight, Turkey is kicked out of Sudan by the current reformist government. Turnkey is only present in Somalia and Qatar which the later is Gulf State.
