For a drama class I took in college, I recited this scene up to the point of Kyon actually answering the question as my monologue final exam. The professor was floored and asked me where I found the text. Once I sent him the link to this scene, he replied with a hearty thank you :)

"Ask me as many times as you want and my answer won't change. Of course I do." I really do love the way this scene shows how much Haruhi and all her craziness mean to Kyon despite his constant snarking. It's a bit that still causes me to tear up. I see his choice of Haruhi over a normal life with AltNagato as the final confirmation that Kyon does love Haruhi overall

This movie is simply amazing... I was not a big fan of the Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. I thought it was ok, but I didn't think of it as anything special. But then one fateful rainy day, I was stuck inside my house over Winter break and decided to watch this movie. And I was absolutely stunned. It turned me into a Haruhi fan, made me make my second ever anime buy, and forever cemented a place as one of my all time favorites. And what made this even better? A spectacular English dub that I liked equally as much if not more than the Japanese dub.

I’ve seen three versions of this monologue: the movie, the manga, and light novel. Out of the three, I have to say the movie surpasses even the light novel, particularly because the presentation. The movie is the best at showing the conflict being a fight with his true feelings and him coming to terms with them. And it even shows that it wasn’t an easy decision either, as he gave up an ideal, peaceful life. Though the light novel’s version still pretty good.

I always wondered about all the times we didnt see Yuki in her most potentially agonizing moments. You have to remember she is forced by the Data Integration entity to CONSTANTLY survey Haruhi at every turn so her every move outside of that purpose must have been inexplicably horrific. Was she ever punished during those brief instances of independence? Did her face ever contort in a way that would have been shocking for us when Kyon sees her change the world? Did she look sad or depressed beyond recognition? Did she cry at home when she didnt come to school the day after Endless Eight? I think their are serious implications of Yuki's emotional state in those scenes cause they always make it a point to never SHOW what shes thinking or going through. Its merely implied. Which makes me think she really did show genuine moments of suffering that went against her programming. It must have been horribly painful for her
