CRISPY Catfish in Romantic Proportions 🌶 🎣 🥭 Delicious ‘Phu Tai’ Ethnic Food @ไทอีสานลาบเป็ด

Catfish meat (shredded, breaded and deep-fried) is already a delicious snack on its own. However, when you want full-on Thai-style sour and spicy max-out flavors, and you cover that catfish with a mango, chili, and herb-filled salad... you create "Yam Pla Duk Foo" an absolute dish of wonders when it comes to a flavor texture dream combo meal.
This restaurant is a personal family favorite in the large Esaan town of Khon Kaen, the kind of place that has something (or many things) for everyone in the family. The papaya salad menu is incredible and diverse, the local fish selection takes up an entire page on its own, the fire-pots of Esaan's blindingly sour soups are just delightful here, and there are even some wonderfully tame dishes to make (mom and/or 'the kids') the not-so-spicy food lovers in the group feel very satisfied as well.
A team of young ladies are holding down the reception, the kitchen, and the restaurant, and after more than a dozen evening meals here I can guarantee you are in for one of the most incredibly tasty meals of Esaan food you would ever want in Khon Kaen.

So thats just something cool to remember... What an awesome video ❤️. I love Tilapia and Marion Plums and fresh herbs and veggies. We used to catch fresh Tilapia in Botswana when I lived there. Spent 10 years in Gaborone. Great looking meal. Absolutely love crispy food as well! I always laugh when you have to let your food cool. I think I have a cast iron tongue and hands. Always eat my food extremely hot and drink tea immediately after making it. My children are always shocked when I turn food on the grill with my hands too 🤣 Much love ❤️

This place was pretty surprising to me for Cycling, I knew that the atmosphere would be chill, I knew the weather would be hot, the air super clean… But I just could not believe the gigantic opportunity for Cycling down there. So many reasons why I can’t wait for the next visit… Whenever that will be. Maybe you will be there by then :-) ha ha, not kidding man, that would be awesome

Andrew, I hear you on that, during the 5 years there studying, man I was just so.... haha so confused in the end, just so confused as to how food is so different (how its even THOUGHT of in such different ways) around the world. Of course Kenya its also very different, in that way its even more in the thinking, but yeah of course what is actually eaten is different and unique as well... Well!! Hi Jopie!! Well, I really appreciate your comment! One camera already took about 1 year to save the money so... but yes eventually I guess it would be fun to have TWO cameras :) :) I will continue to learn though, using my GoPro to add effect and atmosphere

Hiiii Kristina :) :) Im sure youve seen (almost every? every single?!?) video by now, do you remember the "Coldest Place in Thailand" video from 2 months ago? That was pretty accurate, and winter here usually last for a few weeks, sometime in January, and the lowest temp I have ever seen (not on a mountain, but just in town) was 7 C. Very cold when no house unit has ever heard of central heating.

Richard! Great question, something that Mark Wiens and I talk about frequently... when it comes to "normal food," meaning things that you can order straight off a menu, then No. Nothing is too spicy. But that doesnt mean that there havent been times when I was absolutely crying and laughing in pain, its just that I like it! But for ANY food on earth, then of course there are things that are too spicy! Eating a fresh organic Carolina Reaper could honestly kill a person who does not have a spice tolerance already built up, they would go into shock and possibly die! Haha, so yes there are things out there.... but they're just not normally eaten as "food."

the foods looks very delicious. i'm not a big fan of eating fish but those dishes looks very tempting. that merion mango fruit looks very interesting, haven't come across that even when i was in asia. have to keep a close eye for that next time.

Joel, Li, The Cat fish dish 'Yam Plaa Duk Foo' looked like a conversation piece. I thought it was on a bed of fried noodles. I don't care much for Cat Fish as they are Bottom Feeders and scavengers, they eat all the junk that's why they are so oily and fatty too. I stay with the white fish and Salmons. But I like the presentation 👌. The Marian Plum looked like a Passion Fruit 🍒 ( It was a first, for Li?). Though the Passion shell is hard and the the nectar is in the seeds. Yes this, looks just like a Western Plum, though it comes form the Mango family?. You can call it a Tropical Plum 😜. Enjoyed the segment, you both are a great team. 🙏 Mano.

Hi Mano!!! Awesome to have you curious about the YamPlaDookFoo, I have always loved this dish. AND, before Thailand, I also had no idea that catfish could be so tasty - they are definitely one of the most widely-eaten fish around here, and not just one species either (the one we had in Beungkan was a giant Mekong catfish, and the table we had today actually had 2 different species of catfish! The Yam was the "normal" catfish, but the soup was a Redtail Catfish)
