Oh how I love your videos! When I was a little girl, we lived in a German village (Gransdorf) and lived in the old bundespost. (My Daddy was in the USAF and was stationed at Spangdahlem). So many memories, and I love your recipes! The food alone would be worth the trip back!

My momma used to make fried potatoes with onions. I didn't know they were part of our German heritage! 💛

@@OurGabledHome If my father didn’t add the onions to the potatoes and we were having eggs, he fried the onions first and added them when he was making scrambled eggs.

My mama used to fry onions and potatoes together. I really liked that. Don't know where she learned it. May have just done it because it sounded good. Anyway, I'm an old lady now and still do that. Mama didn't cook them first; just raw potatoes and raw onions. That's the way I still fry them. Yummmm!

This brings back memories of my grandfather. He lived with us and when i was with him during the day. He would make something like this and call it Kaiser Wilhelm potatoes. Always tasty and would hit the spot.

Can you peel them before you boil them
@deepblue25 Жыл бұрын
Well you could, but boiling them with the skin adds a lot to the rustic flavor of this dish.

You could but they might fall apart, get more wetter and lose flavor 😊 ~ Anja

If you want to use butter, you can do it in the form of Ghee. It works with high heat and you can have the buttery flavor

Looks SO good! I can't eat much fat...wonder if I could get this crisp using a small amount of stock or water?
@cheritamd7406 Жыл бұрын
I don’t think that will work. You will end up steaming them. As far as I know moisture is the enemy of browning. There are oils that provide a more healthy fat content. I would just say to just have a smaller portion and/or make them an occasional food.

You could add water or broth but then they won’t get crispy ~ Anja

We did the less pretty variety most of the time.... toss in some chicken or turkey and have hash. Dad would occasionally do it the other way though.

I make ghee, which is very high heat. We also have peanut oil. But you are wrong about even heat in cast iron. It does not heat evenly, but retains heat better than anything else.
