As a child of an alcoholic father I completely understand him, although we lived in the same house for 23 years until the day he died I never really knew my father either. Never had one meaningful conversation or loving moment that I remember, he was verbally abusive (and a little bit of a narcissist I believe) and undermine mine and my brothers self confidence forever. It pains me to say this but even if I loved him and will love him forever, I don’t really miss him because without him my family’s quality of life got so much better and happier... it’s sad for someone to say this about their own father but I think people who have gone through something similar would understand what I mean.

After you watch this, you understand the mentality of the man. His Father was so important to him, and he died just when he was reaching stardom. That was perhaps the fuel he needed to go on and become even greater than he realised. My Father also passed away from alcohol related illness, so I now see why Ronaldo's health, work ethic and aim for perfectionism comes from. When a family member dies like that, quite early, it scares you into action, and you take your health a lot more seriously. Ronaldo is an inspiration as he is a product of hard work and insane mindset.👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

Saddest thing about Ronaldo that I read in the book about him by Balague, was how Ronaldo's father gave away the iconic Cristiano jersey from his debut at United, from the match against Bolton, for a shot of vodka. And how 8- years - old Ronaldo, was often taking care of his drunk dad, taking him home from the local bar, so his completely drunk, veteran father would not lose his way home. Just imagine a little child going through all of this. His father had demons, and so has he. Generational trauma.

At least Cristiano's father was there, although obviously sick from addiction. Thousands of fathers leave their kids when a new 'opportunity' presents itself and only later realize that they missed out on the best thing that life has to offer, a family! Cristiano is right, family is everything!!
@russelconor87042 жыл бұрын
Cristiano's father was drafted into the army as a very young man and sent to an absolutely suicidal, terrible war in Angola, where these soldiers saw, did, and suffered terrible things. A friend of Cristiano's father, from the army, who still lives in Madeira, spoke about it once in-depth, to the media, I remember reading the article. I can't even repeat it here. It would mess up anyone's psyche, so it's no wonder that Cristiano's father came back from the war with PTSD and started drinking. I personally saw such veterans - they are the living dead. In her biography, Ronaldo's mother said that ''Cristiano's father's only ambition was to drink himself to death.'' - actual quote. And unfortunately, he managed to do it when his kidneys did not last. Jose died in 2005. Cristiano was already starting to be a big star in 2005, he tried to save his dad, transferred him to one of the best hospitals in London, but his father died anyway. It was reportedly a terrible shock for Cristiano, and he received the news of his father's death at the training camp of the Portuguese national team, from the then-coach Luis Felippe Scolari. Also, Cristiano's mother worked very hard throughout her entire life, including going to France as a cleaner to support the children, because the father was unable to function normally.

Some background the war started because Angolan workers wanted an end to forced labor and inhumane conditions. The Portuguese army killed over 100 thousand people, rapped, looted and bombed over 17 towns in Angola. The academy that he was playing when he was young recorded important matches not just his match. This is necessary for review, study, and complaint purposes. I went away to do my own life.........and when i came back to see him.....it felt the same no emotional attachment. I know he is my father and i love him the most but just that part of my childhood and my adolescence.....was missing. i don't resent my father at all.....don't get me wrong i just understand that that's how life is and i still love him now he doesn't drink because he has a tough wife that keeps him in check....

What I admire about him is his determination. I wish I could emulate that. Glory and money apart- it requires an extremely disciplined mind to be surrounded by all the wealth and best things and still work like hell and eat a restricted diet and not drink. That is a guy who lives for his work

This is why he cried when Ruud van Nistelrooy shouted "GO CRY TO YOUR DADDY!" at him. Ofc, RvN didnt mean his deceased father but Carlos Queiroz who was like a mentor to him.

BS spiritual narrative. If it were true the sucess rate would be great for humans. It's sink or swim though and humanity isn't in some great place. Stop perpetuating cliché narratives just because you read it or heard it somewhere.

Quite true. Actually most of the men that were in Angola because of the colonial war came back from it very different than from when they went and in Portugal it's very well documented that most of them became alcoholics, drug abusers or even wife beaters. That's what war does to people. Nothing good comes from wars. To have the chance to kill or be killed in a daily basis changes you as a person, it has to. And you have to come back to normal life, different set of rules and most don't even get the support to get back to normal.
