*"everything today is not surprising"* that is a deeply eloquent and accurate portrayal of today's society that I've never heard before but felt without articulating, many times everyday for the past years

Love this guy's vibe. Hearing him describe the plot of Close-up made me desperately want to see it.

someone should make a compilation of all the times someone has said something along the lines of "i feel like a kid in a toy store" in the criterion closet lmao

Toy/Candy Store.....let's be honest though who wouldn't? Even if I quibble about Criterion's selection, I'd still feel the same.

To combine "Crash" with "Clear, Shaven" is almost incredible, but it makes good sense. I discovered Bonello with "Nocturama" and now, I´m blown away by "The Beast". What he says about Pasolini is just wow. Have we heard that: "Everything today is so not surprising." (3´20") And Kiarostami!

I remember reading about CLEAN SHAVEN in Film Threat magazine. Sadly, back then, I had no chance of really seeing it.

Lodge Kerrigan directed along with Amy Seimetz the first season of The Girlfriend Experience 2016, some of the best small screen cinema. I don’t know what he’s up to more recently. I prefer Keane to Clean Shaven though Peter Greene in the latter doesn’t look like he’s acting one bit, one of the most real, raw, disturbing depictions of mental illness you’ll ever see.

Close Up is a great film I would highly recommend . However the last scene Mr. Bonello mentions when he said the films director Kiarostami picks 'the impersonator ' up at the prison is not quite right . The scene is even more beautiful when you realize just who it is meeting him upon his release and who will act as his liaison in the closing scene . Quite touching .

Bonnello’s Nocturama should be on Criterion if it isn’t already. Like Godard’s La Chinoise whittled down to something as precise and pitiless as Kubrick’s The Killing. Yet also a poem.

How come no one ever chooses films from the back wall? Is it just floor to ceiling all the unsold copies of Border Radio?

I loved Close Up too, I felt so deeply sorry for this poor young ( at the time ) man, I wonder whatever happened to him, and if he is still around, I would love to see a follow up from someone who worked with, or just a fan of, Kiarostami and the movie.

How come everyone that comes in the closet acts like die-hard Criterion & film fans yet they take what they proclaim are so of their favourite films, how come they don't have copies of them already? LOL

Many of these folks over the age of 35 probably have extensive DVD or even VHS collections of these films. Nothing beats a great Criterion Blu-ray transfer.
