@@jcudal32 Exactly, that or Barnes and Noble puts all their criterion's at 50% off twice a year, got it for a little less than $150. Such a steal. 39 films for that price. Now for the Fellini set...

Please correct me if I'm wrong. Put a question mark on the ones I'm not sure about. Haven't made it through the whole set either but here's what I recognize and a few guesses: Hour of the Wolf - 0:10 Persona - 0:11, 0:35, 0:40 (film reel)?, 1:12 (the woman), 1:29 (nail in hand) Summer Interlude - 0:12, 0:51 (dancers), 1:21? Through a Glass Darkly - 0:14?, 0:50 (woman falling to her knees) Fanny and Alexander - 0:17, 0:58, 1:23, 1:30 Shame - 0:24, 1:26 From the Life of the Marionettes - 0:30 Cries and Whispers - 0:38, 1:25 The Silence - 0:50 (boy in white shirt) Smiles of a Summer Night - 0:50 (woman in white dress), 1:27 The Seventh Seal - 0:50 (man in black robe), 0:52?, 1:16 Summer With Monika - 1:02 (man and woman) The Magician - 1:10? The Rite - 1:12 (man with magnifying glass) Autumn Sonata - 1:15 (hospital room)? The Virgin Spring - 1:19 Scenes From a Marriage - 1:31

At only $150 during the B&N 50% off sales, it's the equivalent of buying 7 and a half regular films at $19.99, but you're getting 39 films instead with a huge and informative book. That's just about the best deal on anything you will find, ever.

It’s funny, I actually saw my first Bergman film about 11 months ago, when you posted this comment. This last year, discovering his work, is one of the greatest emotional journeys I’ve ever been on. I swear him and his art were the only things keeping me stable during 2020.

I’m sorry, I love Bergman. But Wild Strawberries just doesn’t do it for me! What am I missing, it seems to be such a big title for so many people. But it just seems like it should be like 8th or 10th on everyone’s lists.
@evanparrafx5 жыл бұрын
It's not for everyone, and we all have different tastes, but Wild Strawberries is just incredibly beautiful and also sad. It's the examination of an old man's life that's almost over. The painful memories he carries, the happiness too, the loneliness, the purpose of the life he lived, the fear of inevitable death. Young or old, we all examine these same things and it's incredibly relatable and honest. We will all have to deal with the inevitable also and it's a scary thing to confront. If it's not for you, that's fine, but hopefully this helps with seeing how many find it moving. The themes are pretty universal too. Also, an 8th or 10th best Bergman movie is still better than almost every directors 1st. 😆
@jessegrubbs5075 жыл бұрын
evanparra - Yeah I mean you’re totally right on all points. I guess it was just, on my first work through his catalog, Wild Strawberries seemed the less challenging of his films and I think that led to a perceived less than quality in my head. It’s a great movie, it just was really overshadowed for me. And yeah even his 30th best would be better than almost anything out this year!
