The fact that 14yo me used to unconditionally defend this show's problematic episodes 💀 Still quote it though, it's got some witty lines when you pretend they exist in a vacuum. But hey, at least this adaptation doesn't have Little My asking out her brother. (Yeah people need to stop defending the 90s anime for that shit it's literally disgusting). I don't think the "big boned" line is problematic really. Siblings are just like that yknow.

the show's not problematic, there's nothing wrong with liking it! if "critical" gave that impression I just mean as in, critical of its choices and quality. it's just a bit weakly written compared to the source material imo, with the odd unfortunate implication as a result (mostly the Ruby thing). the 90s anime is perfectly fine, too. it seems to be that snufkin and little my are totally unrelated to each other in that adaptation's continuity, which makes the interaction in isolation totally innocent. very uncomfortable with Exploits in mind, but definitely not done with any kind of intent. and I just personally find unchallenged comments like the big-boned thing misplaced in shows with impressionable baby demographics, but mostly, within the full scrapped review, it was about the inconsistency/hypocrisy of her character there.

@@Vimbry Ok I understand, thanks for the reply /gen I still think it was important for me to know know how to separate the stuff I like from the stuff I don't like. That goes for any piece of media imo. I'm not going to deny how much MV19 has shaped my critical thinking skills and sense of humour, even the slip-ups. As for the 90s thing... the "dating" interaction makes me super uncomfortable but if I can commit to MV19 after the Trial, hey, anything's possible. But the video was really funny, loved the 'feminism' bit!

Not having seen MV19, the first edit had me cackling. I have no idea who this person flying away is, but it's so silly. As for Little My joking about Moomintroll's weight, yeah, she can be mean, but it seems like (at least from what I've read and seen) she's the type who's like "nobody insults my boy except for me" or "oh shit, wait, they're being mean to his face, that's gonna hurt him." I did that stuff a lot as a kid, so I feel like that's what's in her head. Tofslan and Vifslan being told their love for each other is important hurts so good 😭
