Not long ago, I played a game in a 25 hour gaming session for charity (yes, that exists and yes, it was legit) and after one of our characters had to leave, some old guy of about 60 years of age walked by and jumped in for him. Never played the game before, but he had a blast. Role-played and everything. I love these games.

I love how Matt is like: you start with a town. And maybe there's this and that in the town. And then you move on to a desert.... and his impro setting has me want to take notes. Nomad tribe. Desert creatures, great! Best DM ever!

Great question and answers about player couples and in-game romance. Sooooo much in-game romance in our campaign that I DM, and I love how on-point Matt and Marisha were with their advice about maturity, separation of player and character, and most importantly communication between players as far as comfort-levels. And if you can find a group of people who are all on the same page that way, you'll never have problems with in-game relationships affecting real-life ones. Or, if they do, it'll only be in a positive way.

wow I think I get it with the Orion's question at the 40 min mark. Marisha Rays reaction paints a picture clear as day and I finally understand why Matt, the cast, and especially Marisha will no longer allow Orion back on the show. Especially with Orion's video saying that Marisha was his best friend and he misses her the most. Critical Role is awesome keep up the great work and keep Orion out! D&D is a game but the decision is clearly real world stuff.

Honestly, I hope they never do... partly because the nostalgia he feels for it revolves around how good it was for him... at the time. And partly because I find his own plots and arcs fit his players better... because his players are *always* off the rails. :)

@@CorwinC73 Yeah, and I feel like Sam doesn't have the right personality for something that's supposed to be actually scary and serious, I think he'd keep undercutting the mood. Not trying to be mean, but he's definitely a Comedian first and an actor second. He does it all the time in the actual campaign but it's usually not a problem because the tone is more conducive to fun and comedy, so it only gets annoying when Matt is trying to set a mood and he's interrupting, (like in C2 towards the end). But if it was supposed to be a more grim dark campaign I could easily see him getting pretty grating pretty quickly lol. (No offense to Sam, I love the guy, but his talents lie elsewhere). (Laura would too, to be fair!)

Woohoo! This critter has now been labeled as "Old Guard", thanks Matt. I have been lucky enough to be gaming for over 40 years now, thanks to those old Avalon Hill board games and moving on to D&D and many other RPGs and board games over the years. I heartily agree that gaming is now much more accepted than when I started and that's a great thing. I look forward to rolling dice for many more years to come.

I've always found D&D character creation interesting. I personally think that a character that you love and enjoy playing can actually bring out that aspect of a given persons character, that is ever latent or the person really wasn't aware of until they got invested in that character. I consider it away to explore yourself more, a different form of improvisation classes. Hence people get attached to the character, because it is a bit about them. It's human nature to transfer yourself on to the world, because you are the only thing that you are relatively certain of in the world..

You know despite what Matt says I actually like playing an evil characters. Because there are many ways to play evil. You don't have to be a ravening lunatic. You don't have to be just a damage grinder type situation. Sometimes the best kinds of evil are the more subtle and cerebral evil the kind that you have to take a double take to picture up on. I mean my current evil wizard is heavily a cerebral evil type. There are actions that I take as it that could be considered evil just as much as they are considered good or something else. I may take them for evil reasons but from the perspective of others they can view it as an good act. Or I can find alternative methods of a situation where I find my character encountering a heavily lawful situation. I can have my character go drunk because as a chaotic character it would be chaffing under the law component and alcohol gives the character an escape. I can even take pride in a lawful situation that is not necessarily what you would consider a good one.

Well Laura was the reason why I started watching the show (mainly because she was the only one I had heard of) but I stayed for Grog's aggression, Scanlan's humour and jokes, Keyleth and Pike's caring natures, the twins close relationship, the mystery of guest stars (Zarah and Kash more than anyone, although I want Thorbir to return), and the relationship between the whole team. And I'm going to be honest I tried to think of something positive about Tiberius but he always annoyed the crap out of me.

Well, it's a team thing. Orion on his own wasn't the funniest guy for everyone, I'm sure. I myself thought he was taking too much space, evne though, he was one of the three characters that got me watching the show : I still believe the dynamic between Scanlan and Tiberius was hilarious. As for the rants, it's part of the character : he's a rambling old man. To be honest, I felt like the show would get worse after he left, and I'll admit that it actually didn't. Truth is, the game is better... but the comedy isn't.

+NoNamedJustice I don't know... Still feel like that was kind of a disrespectful way to put people on the spot, since they've made it pretty obvious they don't like to talk about the circumstances around splitting with Orion. It has been made clear before that there are no real plans of having him back on the show, let's not beat a dead horse or open old wounds.

+Justpastawesome It is called a Q&A for a reason. i.e. to ask questions. I for one am still a bit bent up about Orion having to leave critrole for whatever mysterious, sudden, and controversial reasons they may be.(still unclear) I'd really just like an honest answer one way or the other. Matt surely has levels in rogue, cause that was some master-class evasion. Still a critter, but I've got a thorn lodged in my paw. *cue sad Trinket moan*

Hmm.. I started watching Critical Role 2 weeks ago, and I'm up to episode 11 of campaign 1, and I've been already noticing tension between Matt and Orion since the beginning. So much so that I started googling on if they had some prior beef, and found out that Orion will actually be leaving in the future. I mean, in my experience, Matt was short and tempered against Orion from the beginning, often telling him to hurry up and/or pay attention, while I don't feel Orion was delaying or not paying attention less or more than any of the other players; I feel like he's one of the most colourful and well played out characters on the cast.

my curiosity in why "he" is no longer with the show is holding me back from enjoying the show. i sympathize with both sides i cant choose one side or the other because i don't have all the information and telling people not to speculate just show a lack of understanding on human nature. they just didnt "go their separate ways" for some trivial reason like "time" there's bad blood. and my bet is if it were made public at least two things would happen. 1. there would be legal trouble. and 2. bad press for CR, which would be really bad right now b/c of the show there getting up and running on amazon. i really dont like how they worded how "he left the show" they should say hes no longer with CR. instead from where i set he never wanted to leave. and mods or critroll team if by chance you read this when your show goes live this controversy will come back in full force. humans love drama, and the way Orion was handled with so much speculation was not the best plays this im sure you know now but the hole is dug and the shovel is broken and you cant dig out. i could go on forever and a day but its nothing thousands of people have already said before. i just needed to say this so i could get over it and continue to enjoy the show. i didnt even like the character that much i just hate how this was handled from a pr standpoint source: www.reddit.com/r/criticalrole/wiki/orion#wiki_why_did_orion_leave.3F and this right here just pisses EVERYONE off 01/16/18 Moderator Rule Change: Submissions about Orion (outside of the context of his appearances on the show) are not relevant to Critical Role. I love CR so much, it’s quickly become my comfort show in 2020 but one thing I don’t agree with is how they dealt with Orion leaving. Fans who have spent EASILY 100+ hours watching Campaign 1 episodes leading up to his departure and bonded with him being a part of Vox Machina deserve to know why he had to leave AND why Matt so adamantly says he can never come back. For the fans who have made Critical Role one of the most important things in their lives (put money towards supporting the show and the actors) Don’t you think they deserve an explanation, no matter how short you choose to make it? I understand not being able to say much if the company was considering taking legal actions against O**** but at the very least, tell us that!

Marisha says she's more empathetic and then immediately turns around and demonstrates a complete inability to see things from someone else's perspective and just has so much derision in her voice when talking about something she disagrees with. Such a stark contrast to Matt who's always so much more understanding and reasonable.
