This doesn't sound as enticing to me as CR's more fantasy-oriented campaign, which is the main reason why I've stuck with D&D for so long. Horror is fine...but I prefer READING it than watching it in the form of movies, TV shows or in this case, tabletop campaigns

Given that this is more intended for short form session-based stuff, I'm thinking that the most we'll see of this is more of the minicampaign-like structure we see with exandria unlimited. Campaign 4 will most likely be the other RPG system they're developing: Daggerheart- which is more intended for long-form stuff
@SchmartsyMan

I mean, it *isn’t* supposed to be the new “DnD” they are *also* debuting soon. This is something akin to Vampire: The Masquerade. This type of TTRPY is usually more Roleplay focused with minimal combat. So it’s kinda the point that this doesn’t replace the system they’ll use in Season 4. Season 4 is going to be Daggerheart, the direct competition to D&D/Pathfinder. If I remember correctly they (Critical Role) are also dropping a card-based game soon as well. This is just one of several new systems they’ve come up with, and it sounds amazing. I would *adore* seeing this mixed into their new season. Daggerheart for the “meat” of the season’s content, with Obscura for the “marrow”, really deep lore and Roleplay with very little focus on combat encounters.

great video. One issue, is that you made a slight error when talking about character advancement. You only get to choose the 2 character advancement options when the entire circle is complete, not when the bolded circles are met. Those bolded circles are just milestones, which can have certain effects with the circle abilities. If you run with the rules as you have described, your players will be levelling up 3 times as fast as they should. Also, the circle resources can only be used between assignments, not between sessions, since an assignment can last multiple sessions

This seems a lot like Powered by the Apocalypse, which is a very good rules-light and setting-agnostic system, but the resistance system is very Blades in the Dark, and tying the catch-up mechanic (drive) into a special die seems to be a unique and engaging mechanic.

A TTRPG that I was really looking forward to playing (there were outside reasons for it not happening) is another slightly creepy one called Geist. You playa a person that would have died, but were saved by what is essentially a high-tier ghost. This entity gives you powers and the ability to see ghosts (or strengthens said ability if you already had it). The powers, and the entity you attract to you, are determined by the category you death falls into. People in this state are able to help ghosts and spirits move on and the like. My character was in medical school, but was betrayed by her brother to the cult he was trying to join. This attracted "Treason", the entity that saved her. He does not speak and communicates with my character via images and visions. He was betrayed by a brother and was murdered, hence his bond with my character. He gave her the ability to control ghosts like a puppet master.

I'm glad you liked it but I was honestly pretty disappointed by the Quickstart rules (didn't watch the stream). It felt like just a combination of Blades in the Dark and Monster of the Week, which would be fine if it weren't quite a bit worse than either. There's basically no rules about how any of the items work despite calling out Bleed Containment Units as a necessary tool. There are errors in the mechanics like missing how Resistances come back and giving Slinks an ability they can never use. The included adventure is a railroad vacillating wildly between being extremely specific about what GMs should say and not giving any information at all, telling GMs they should just come up with core plot information for themselves. It keeps mentioning using flashbacks to tell stories, which seems to be inspired by Blades in the Dark, but doesn't give any of the cool mechanical methods for doing that which is what makes that game so notable. I'm hopeful the full game feels more complete but as it stands, I was pretty letdown.

@@lefterismplanas4977 The adventure included in the guide specifically calls out a point where you should remind players about this item that protects against bleed. It's weird, so many people have the same in between issue of not having a RP party, but wanting to be in a heavy RP game. I feel like this system will give those heavy RP gamers the exact thing they desire. A game where they get to immerse themselves deeply, and not be interrupted with make x roll, make another roll to talk your way out, etc. The simplicity comeseasier if you've put yourself into situations of DMing, making rules/systems, or are familiar with other D6 games. For me, it is simple, but i can see where some may get lost. Again, an amazing and informative video shorts, love to see if you ever get a game of this going. Some problems with the system: The GM telling others what they did is not very player friendly, and requires an EXTREMELY Matt Mercer-y GM to be effective. The Matt Mercer effect rages will then be quintupled. Players can lie on Illumination questions. No obvious penalties for such. No obvious & clear limitations on illumination questions Requires a group that can trust each other to perform team actions Is BEGGING for an RPG Horror story fest in regards to all of the above and more.
@Revelryproject

Players can lie about every single aspect of every single game though. Everything else is more of a communication issue. Also the GM does not HAVE to narrate what the players are doing. As with DnD you will always have the option to let them describe what the player does and then fill in the gaps according to the role. :)

Omg this system is so similar to the system used for a swedish rpg I play. It also uses d6 and has a similar success rule and you add more dice based on how "good" your character is at that thing and it has 3 different groups of abilities and the damage also works the same. It's called Väsen and takes place in the 1800s and has you investigate a bunch of creatures and events inspired by swedish mythology, and also has a focus on that over battle. So the setting is also similar. Is there some common origin here? It seems too similar to be a coincidence Edit: even the levelling up system is similar!!

Similar enough concept for damage. Less character investment prior to first session, so a LOT faster to get started. It also looks like it is easier to keep power focus in check with CRs system compared to FATE. Yeah it IS quite a simple system, and not as fleshed out as E5, but we only have the alpha-edition as of yet, and I can already see this having a lot of potential on the table even in its current form. Rules don't need to be complicated to give rise to complicated derivated situations. "Easy to learn, hard to master" is a virtue when done right.

Much better rundown than CR's own preview, but I admit I haven't had time to watch the entire 1st episode yet; I'll need to re-watch this to fill the blanks. Reminds me heavily of Fate and DragonAge in a Cthulhu setting.

This sounds very similar to Kingdom Death: Monster in terms of how it tracks an individual's health/deaths.

This sounds like a more simple call of cthulhu, which is exactly what I was searching

After watching the stream of it I was thinking, this is a good system for streamers and roleplay heavy groups, combat focused groups that struggle with roleplay and quick creative thinking like my own group however probably aren't gonna like it. I think the best way to describe it is probably "Simple but Vague" in that a lot of specific rules are very simple but when running something like combat, it's very much on the GM and players to act out the situation in ways that are interesting. Players who just roll dice and hit things aren't gonna get much out of it. But that's fine with so many systems out there not everything is a one size fits all and like I said this feels perfect for streamers and actors like CR.

Great, easily digestible video. I heard of the game but wasn't too familiar with it. Thanks for the video.

Gives me vibes from haunt on hill house, but a little longer lasting. Probably pretty fun if that's true

This could be an interesting game. I love the setting but usually lean more towards crunchy heavy systems like Shadowrun vs rules-lite systems, but I'd give it a shot.

Wait, isn't it basically Lumen SRD (as in Light RPG or Nova RPG) on steroids? Even the name suggest that bit I see no mention of Spencer Campbell 🤔

my first impression was Call of Cthulu but more accessible and beginner friendly (as someone that hasn't actually played Call of Cthulu but wants to). I'm really excited to instead give this a shot! I hope they release a physical rule book though 🥺 I'll buy it in a heartbeat
