I wonder why they didn't include the fact that Pike succeced on Divine Intervention in the fight where goddess punched down from heaven.
@albertds63302 ай бұрын
Divine interventions are great ingame, but on a series where you control the narrative, the audience can perceive it as a cheap way to make something happen. Besides, pike is an a arch where there's distance growing between her and the everlight, they may save a divine interention-like moment for a more crucial part of the story and to represent a rekindling with the everlight I guess.

As mentioned, most likely they're setting it up for her to rekindle her own faith for the fight against Thordak and call upon the Everlight there

Some context and scaling to this battle, for those less D&D familiar/fluent... *:)* 1.) *_D&D Rules Scaling..._* - a.) *Player Levels -* By basic D&D standards, Player level scale from 01 to 20. - b.) *Challenge Rating (CR) -* In D&D, monsters are scaled by their *_Challenge Rating (CR)._* The CR [number] is the scale for 4-6 Players of that level-[number] to effectively fight/defeat that monster. So a CR 12 monster is generally scaled for a (4-6) group of level 12 Players. The CR [number] can go *HIGHER* than (level) 20, for scaling Epic-tier adversaries, such as arch-devils, demon princes, elemental lords, ancient eldritch horrors, a god's physically-manifested avatar, etc. 2.) *_Critical Role Scaling_** --* So with the *[CR 1x71 - "Vorugal"]* play-session, and the *[LoVM 3x05 - "The Frigid Wastes"]* episode, the scaling is... - a.) Vox Machina (VXM) = level 15 average, Small creatures (gnomes) and Medium creatures (dwarves, goliaths, half-elves, humans) take up 1 map-spare each - b.) Vorugal, the Frigid Doom; male ancient white dragon = CR 20, Vorugal was a Gargantuan dragon, taking up 4x4 map-squares - c.) Yenk; male demon (Goristo) = CR 17, Yenk was a Huge demon, taking up 3x3. map-squares 3.) *_Vorugal vs. Yenk (vs. VXM)_** --* So while Yenk (17) was powerful enough to battle Vorugal (20), Yenk was not powerful enough to defeat Vorugal alone. But as VXM's (15) intent/hope was that Vorugal and Yenk would kill each other, or at least both be damaged enough for VXM to finish either/both off, it (obviously) worked out for VXM. *;)* Thanks for uploading this, *555smo.* :)
@sharmelfattakhov5041Ай бұрын
I would point out that their CR might not be exactly by the book as they're both seemingly have more hp compared to their book counterparts but great comment anyway)
@pendrake40Ай бұрын
@@sharmelfattakhov5041 -- Thank you kindly. *:)* Likewise, you are correct. Rather obviously, media translation from D&D 5e books to animation screen will rarely (if ever) be exact. An additional (separate) factor, with Critical Role play-sessions, Matt Mercer (the Dungeon Master) often changes (pre-session) the stats/HP of named bosses. This is so the CR-cast, whom were veteran D&D players even before Critical Role began broadcasting/livestreaming in 2015 (the home-game began in 2010), does not take down the named boss(es) in just 1-2 combat rounds.

@@hhylobates4098 Interesting, but I can see it too. Maybe the show combined Deathwalker's Ward with Whisper because having 2 vestiges, while the others only get 1 each, does make Vax more OP that he already is as a rogue character.

@hhylobates40982 ай бұрын
The fight was really cool, letting Yenk and Vorugal have a longer battle was an improvement. But one major thing I cant like is that this was supposed to be Vexs solo kill, a hugely significant moment in her life as a _dragon hunter_ and in her arc with Fenthras. Making it a combo with Keyleth just to somehow get a tree undermines that, if the bow can suddenly shoot fireballs without explanation then why cant it have its main unique feature? We can assume this means its something it will never do, and so theres another noteworthy tree coming up soon that probably wont exist.
@hhylobates409829 күн бұрын
Alright now the season done I can say it was an even worse decision that it appears; they didn't give Vex her other major moment against the dragons of breaking Thordaks crystal, giving that to Pike instead, and Vexs only "significant" contribution to the final battles against the dragons being the emotional scene of convincing her father to send the Syngorn soldiers... When her father as ambassador isn't even in charge of the army, and season 2 said they were going to fight the dragons anyway. And while she did get to kill Ripley, her one real win, there was no tree from Fenthras left to mark the occasion, to mirror the Whitestone tree that Scanlan carved into her forehead. And they _still_ had to undermine the moment even more by having Vex point out the obvious "Woe is me, the group should have been here :(" You made the choices for it to happen this way, Vex and writers room. Don't point out flaws in your story and act like it was inevitable.

Although the fight itself was by-far better than the campaign version (though it would be nice to see Vorugal land even *one* blast of ice, i don't know how many he missed this episode), I think all the context surrounding the fight is sorely missed. Yenk was a crucial part of their plan, they very intentionally summoned and dominated him to get his aid in the fight, and the fact that he had a Vestige made it all the crazier that they managed to pull it off. Not to mention losing Pike's Divine Intervention, and Raishan aiding in the fight and getting one hell of a cold one-liner on him as she ripped out his throat. Hopefully that translates to the Thordak fight, instead.

Question, in the actual campaign, does Kima actuall hit Vorugal in the eye? It just seems like such a bitch move. Hes already dying and immobilized. Better hit him just for fun.
@Nihil-20052 ай бұрын
Not to my knowledge. That being said, I can understand why Kima did that - she had to evade Vorugal solo until her backup arrived, and nearly got caught by him several times in the process. Between getting pissed off at being singled out, generally being hot-headed, and her vow as a paladin of Bahamut (who is a defender of law and good, and mortal enemy of chromatic dragons like the Chroma Conclave), giving him a finishing blow is definitely up her alley.
@hhylobates40982 ай бұрын
Like the other comment says, she kinda earned it after being chased around for so long. In the campaign they set up an ambush and fought him on the spot, and she actually didnt do much to him once he was hovering above the battlefield, instead left to fight Yenk on the ground. Raishan was there helping, and while Vex still got the killing blow that dropped him from the sky, as he was dying Raishan got a final word in "When you see Thordak on the otherside, tell him it was worth it" before she tore out his throat.
