To be honest, Dusk is kind of genius in a way. The eagerness, the overreacting, the attempts at comic relief, all of it convinced both the cast and us viewers that Dusk was just another wacky character with no real depth. Then that Patron scene comes along and changes everything. The hackneyed connections to other characters' back stories have become malicious ways of earning their trust, and what can be dismissed as "bad acting" by the player is actually bad acting by the character, putting on a farce. The cherry on top is that nobody would expect Erika to come in with this sort of character. They were probably expecting more or less what Dusk seemed to be.

It's not about Erika but pretty much it was the same with every other guest. With guest arriving, the party is always(mostly) very trusty and very welcoming to them. And this always sticked out to me because ever since Clarota in beginning of C1, the party became very distrustful to anyone they meet. On defult, they don't trust the NPCs much until an NPC earns their trust. But with guest PC it's different. And oh good, it really irked me during MN campaign where we had most distrustful party who didn't even trust each-other, but whenever guest PC appeared they immediately became honorable member of MN that everyone likes. (It never made sense to me and it made it so that whenever guest PC appeared, I always had to turn my blind eye to some things and expect lower quality episodes. I was supplementary surprised with some guests but I feel like this for a reason..) Now, Bells Hells aren't like MN. They are much nicer in general, so them trusting Dusk didn't irk me nearly as much. And we did have precedence of Chetney joining the group later. But nonetheless... long have I awaited for the guest PC to appear that would use this trust in order to fuck with the party. The guest PC have far more potential than just inviting a celebrity to experience how it feels to play DnD.

I've seen Marisha get a lot of heat for Beau because people found her 'annoying' (I personally loved her), but man, she continues to blow me away with Laudna. Not just the character, but her portrayal of her, the acting skills - I'm seeing sides of Marisha I've never seen before and it's awesome. Where Beau had anger and Keyleth (I've only seen the Legend of VM) had this sort of "anxious sadness", Laudna has tragic trauma but even more so _joy_ . And the way both Marisha and Laura are handling the tension between Laudna and Imogen is pure art - I mean, expect nothing less from Laura Bailey, but again: MARISHA deserves some credit as well here. I've loved all 3 characters for different reasons. Every character you create is a part of your personality. Laudna is Marisha is her fully dramatic acting bag and crushing it. Beau is her fierce leadership and passion to take action to do what they believe is right. Keyleth, I believe of all the cast's C1 characters, is their most impressive characters. Because she didn't have a plan for a characters arc, those moment just organically happened. And most people don't like Keyleth because they either have zero empathy or see too much of themselves in the character. She's powerful, but questioning of herself, her place in life, in the group, in everything. Her character arc is second only to Scanlan in impressive scale. Episode 1 Keyleth and finale Keyleth are different ends of the spectrum

Taliesin in every campaign so far has had incredible, and rather complex, backstories. It could be just his super creative imagination and Matt goes..."yeah sure, we can use..." Or a 50/50 collab but either way it's something I've noticed.I want to say I heard him say once (maybe on Talks) he's had to limit the number of pages Taliesin can turn in for backstory but I could be imagining it. Even the other characters while they have fun backstories don't seem to be nearly as complex as his.

A battle in the far reaches of space, against an enemy no one knew about, fought by heroes no one knew existed, with no allies to help them, all for the faith of the world. Contrasted by VM, who had been recognized all over the world, fought an enemy everyone heard and saw, in one of the most populated areas of the world, riddled with allies. Polar opposites in terms of world threatening conflicts and more reasons to love both!

I don't think it's where Marisha was going with the scene, I think the overprotective mother hen thing she was doing was just for comedy. Still, I couldn't help but wonder if Orym's bit about Laudna as his mom might hit different for her than hed think. Laudna, a character with such a big heart, died at 20 in a social environment where she may have only just started really thinking about having her own family some day. Another thing, another possibility, taken from her just because she was a brunette who looked vaguely similar to a person she'll (probably) never know. Someone who did in fact get to go on and have a family. Laudna's like a matryoshka doll of tragedy, every layer you peel back just makes her story so much sadder. Yet that ray-of-sunshine-by-way-of-the-Adams-family personality of hers really just makes you want her to find some kind of happiness.

@fizzysassafrass2 жыл бұрын
@@levindeed That's actually not true. It was only the people rich enough to be trading heirs like pawns that married off their barely-teenaged daughters, and the average marriage age even *including* those freaky nobles and royals was mid to late twenties across the European countries like England, Germany, etc. It was even generally frowned upon for the royals not to wait a few years to start the baby making with their child brides. It's been people with a vested interest in making things like age of consent seem inconsequential who have perpetuated the myth that girls across classes were expected to be getting married and pregnant so young. Peasant families' kids were put to work, too - they weren't about to just give away half their help.
@longforgotten48232 жыл бұрын
@@fizzysassafrass bingo, this historian agrees. We have had to debunk this myth so many times that it is not funny. Once one reaches the conclusion that women did not have a renaissance and their rights declined with The enlightenment, a much more interesting picture arises about medieval Europe.

Just in case anyone was wondering, the Uk'otoa water bottle is great quality. Initially I was worried that the graphics would be a cheap sticker/wrap, but it's not at all! It's got great texture and doesn't sweat when you put ice in it! I got mine in yesterday and I'm super duper happy with it, and my inner Warlock-main squealed when I saw it on the store 😍 and of course the charm is suuuuuper cute and great quality and comes with a clip you can detach, which I put on my backpack 👏

If she hadn't had all those nods to a relationship I could believe that either Ollie or Birdie might have been Dancer. So what your saying isn't that far fetched. I think the Aeor postcard is more to signify that they were walking around during pre-calamity and that whatever they're working on is something that has been in the works since before the calamity.
@Boreal_MC2 жыл бұрын
I think a spicier take might be that Dancer and Fearne's parents are in some kind of competition. Birdie and Ollie are purchasing Arcane Batteries, power sources they might be using to revive the remains of Aeormatons they're in possession of. Meanwhile Dancer was able to not only awaken an Aeormaton but modify it's memories to a significant degree. Perhaps she's trying to get her hands on another and the Calloways are keeping them from her. Who's to say which party is in the right, but it would force one of the PC's into a moral dilemma, and that's the good stuff right there.
@duxsilvae2 жыл бұрын

yep... iirc Devexian, the droid they activated, split off before they went to Astral Plane and said something about reactivating others Also at the end of that campaign Matt said that M9 actions unlocked the "Exandrian equivalent of Warforged" so It was clear it's gonna be somewhat connected, but I did not expect FCG being a relic, I took his backstory at face value and expected something inspired by the stuff form Aeor. Also I love how magical engineers got some more love this campaign, partially because of those droids, and machines inspired by them.

I started listening to Arrival at Kraghammer a little over a year ago right after my friends and I started playing DnD and I decided to listen to a podcast to learn more about the game. Little did I know that I would spend hours watching this phenomenal group of people play a game I have grown to love, laugh so hard I cried and then cried so hard my roommate wondered what was wrong with me. This show has gotten me through some of my darkest moments and been with me during some of my happiest. I found an amazing community not only online, but in person through this show and I would not trade one second of time I’ve spent with Critical Role for anything else. Today I am, for the first time, watching an episode on the same day it was released. I have grown so much with these characters, with these people, and I cannot wait to see where they and I still have to go. Thank you so much for everything you guys have done for me and so many other strangers you have brought into this lovely family. Love to you all ❤️
