He's an unreliable narrator for himself bc he sees himself as a clueless, useless idiot. Heroes of Olympus series when we read the perspectives of other characters that he's actually practically a god in terms of power. The same goes for vox machina.

I may be wrong, but ive always viewed ranger "magic" as more of an Aragorn style knowledge of herbs, field survival, and combat acuity; i.e. Cure Wounds cast by a ranger would be more like a kingsfoil (aye, it's a weed) poultice than an actual magic spell. In fact, most ranger spells can pretty easily be explained by either gadgetry (Hail of Thorns being a cluster arrow, Fog Cloud is a smoke bomb, Entangle is a bolo shot) or honed skill (Detect Magic, Speak With Animals). Maybe that's just me though.

Rangers are magical and they aren’t meant to be played how you describe. Their abilities are explicitly magical, akin to those of druids in that sense. It also wouldn’t really make sense at higher levels with the crazy spells they get

The Ranger spell list is the smallest, and all spells there can be pretty easily sorted into the categories I made examples of. Vex is in possession of a Vestige. A literal artifact of godly power. Of course she's amplified by magic. But if you watched C1, most of her abilities come from either items or very clever world building on the part of Matt and Laura to make it fit with her character. I'm sorry, but I think you're wrong.

Too bad percy doesn't have his golden snitch for this. For those who don't know, talisen was gifted a golden D20 from a viewer in the beginning of the first campaign. He used to get a crazy amount of cits with it, he then gifted it to matt at the end of the 1st campaign, then matt used it for the second campaign when he killed mollymok, and then it was stolen from Matt's car when someone broke into his car and stole a bunch of things in bags, including that golden D20

@@williammcnirlan4820 they do need to keep track of the lifespan of their characters, though, even being a deep gnome, Pike could live to be 300 or even older and she's only in her early 70s by C3, Scanlan was 70 in C1. For comparison, Wilhand is 350 when we meet him. She's also a cleric, so she should live a long time due to no illness or injury.

Take, for example, being speared in the leg, in the real world, that means nerve damage, muscle loss and a lifelong weakness, and that's after the possibility of sepsis and other problems. I have always seen magical healing as undoing the injury rather than healing it. The number of adventurers with TBIs would be insanely high otherwise.

From my understanding, I think he does know. I believe it was mentioned that Vax was experiencing the world weirdly in service to the Matron of Ravens, but he was experiencing it and that time seemed to have passed strangely for him so that it had been a longer time since he last saw them. (Source: Dalen's Closet I believe) There's also the fact that he's "breaking the rules" by sending Keyleth ravens, and although that doesn't establish him experiencing her life or anything. It could be like sending a letter or being there in spirit, but we don't know. (Source: either the final episode of C1 before the oneshots or Dalen's Closet again)
