The first thing the Muslim woman does is change "right to offend" to "right to insult". These are different things and she knows it. It is quite possible to offend unintentionally. That is why legislating against it is ridiculous. How can someone refrain from doing something if they don't know they have done it until after the fact? And when that "fact" is a matter of subjective opinion. Insult is different. It is an intentional effort to offend. Personally, I wouldn't want intentional offence to be illegal either. As Murray points out, some things need to be mocked and derided, because they are ridiculous and contemptable, and we should be free to say so. Especially when what makes them contemptable is their desire to remove our rights and freedoms.

All these examples of the use of ill measured speech and the trouble that brings. When did the world decide that the use of extreme language somehow lent weight to an argument? Everybody employs superlatives on this basis nowadays and it shows only the paucity of the intellect delivering it, not someone who makes regular reference to any big picture and measure speech accordingly. I am unable to recall who said it but one of the wits declared that without regular/constant reference to the big picture then a less intelligent approach was being used.

I don’t understand why an I not allowed to be islamophobic? I have a fear of this religion - phobia is fear! But even if it is hate - why am I not allowed to hate??? I can’t hate whatever and who ever I want, as long as I don’t cause harm to anything and anyone (those I hate). It’s just a negative emotion that’s all. How can you forbid someone to feel an emotion?
