The Falcon Reads

My attempt at a review of Immanuel Kant's groundbreaking and immensely challenging philosophical treatise Critique of Pure Reason, which seeks to determine and understand the limits of human reason and the relationship between our minds and the world. A beach read it ain't!

One sunny day many years ago, when you were just a baby falcon in the nest, an eye surgeon with nothing better to do fused pink-tinted contact lenses to your smooth, shining corneas. After he was done, you raised up your tiny feathered head, and stared at the bright sun. Then you closed your eyelids and saw the yellowish afterimage. You kept your eyelids closed and watched that yellowish circle fade to black. You were certain you saw that afterimage, but where exactly was it located? Not outside your feathered head, not on your eyelids, not on your retinas, not on your optic nerves-and if a brain surgeon had been able to examine your brain at that time, the surgeon would not have found that afterimage-so where was it? What's interesting is that you were not actually a baby falcon in a nest with goofy contact lenses-you were just a brain in a vat on Mars.

Ah yes, there is indeed always the possibility of being a brain in a vat. XD

Disconnecting morality from God leads to nihilism. God is dead & I am the Übermensch.

I certainly do understand that position, and I suppose that it can, but when determining the basis for morality, divine command theory isn't sufficiently sound. Even if you could prove the inarguable existence of a god, that would still say nothing as to the virtue of whatever ethical dictates such a god might deliver. In essence it's linking moral rightness with power, which is a dangerous stance to take.

If might makes right then society/majority is the main source of practical power, as it has means to enforce rules on any individual. Morality is just the way society justifies that enforcement, but if to sustain itself society needs to change its moral code, that will be done as it has been throughout history. Morals isn't something that has ever been set in stone, or permanent.

"There is no absolute truth" is the ethos of nihilism.

@@TH3F4LC0NxRead Schopenhauer next because he draws from Kant but is really easy to read, he actually totally rejects the morals however and says Compassion is the true basis of morality, not deontology or utility, unfortunately Nietzsche threw a fit after taking so much from Schopenhauer and the voice of compassion remains quiet...
