Nice looking knife, certainly unique. Pretty darn heavy though, considering its size.

I just saw this on Massdrop. I really like the design and for the price, it seems like a great value. I believe I'll be joining in on the Drop!

Would you recommend this knife for a 14 year old teen? I already have i leek orange from kershaw which i love. The first time i saw this knife on Crkt's website i wanted it. I would probably use it for opening boxes, sharpening sticks other stuff, etc... Will it hold up for those tasks? Would you recommend it? Is it worth wasting $50 on? Can you take it apart to clean it?
@crkt9 жыл бұрын
Zach Fritzler Dude. You bet I'd recommend it. It's got an excellent look and it feels good in hand. It's a solid EDC knife. Now, if you're asking whether I'd recommend spending $50 on this or spending $50 on food for an epic backpacking trip, I'd probably go backpacking. That's just me. I like knives, but I like to take knives on adventures. My two cents. -Ben

it was hard to tell for certain in the video, and since i didn't hear it mentioned, i assume that the exposed edge in the closed position (the half that slants towards the butt end of the handle) is simply a beveled edge for looks and not a sharp edge for function?

Just got mine earlier and I'm rather impressed with it. There are a few things I don't like and if you want a hardy heavy usage knife this isn't it (but then why aren't you just buying a fixed-blade like a bowie knife if that's what you're looking for?), but for what it is it does the job. tl'dr "review" follows if you care for some random persons opinion. The good first: It's a solid carrying knife for lighter tasks and while I had my doubts (as it appeared others did in these comments) about Taiwan steel I don't think this will warp or tear at any point in the foreseeable future as long as you aren't hacking down tree limbs or cutting through heavy cord all-day, every day. I wanted a knife for breaking down boxes and thin plastic straps that looked a little different and that's exactly what I got, and it had no issues holding up to that task all day and shows no sign of wear. If you want a knife for simple tasks on the job and like the look of it this should do a fine job. The bad second: It's a heavy sob. Not like ridiculously so, it's still just a pocket knife and can easily be wielded in the hand, but I actually found it pulling my pants down when walking around and I had it clipped (might need a belt in the future). And speaking of wearing it on your hip though the clip is a minimal profile clip there's still a big silver piece with "CRKT" printed on the side so if you live in a state where there are harsh carrying laws it's not exactly subtle despite the low profile. Additionally the flip-lock is far from the best I've seen. When flipping out it only goes out about 75% of the way and then you have to either grab the blade or push on the bladed side with your thumb to get it the rest of the way out. And the lock, much like the rest of the knife is rather firm and doesn't depress easily. In short if you want a knife that easily opens and closes this also isn't it, if you're just using it for manual labor then this is fine, but if you buy knives because of the "defense" aspect they afford you then that's probably a big deal and CRKT has plenty of better knives for that purpose. Final impressions: I think this knife is exactly what it appears to be. A neat looking piece (if you like the look, I do) that was never intended for defense or heavy use but rather lighter manual tasks. So if you either just collect knives you like the look of or just need a smart looking everyday knife for breaking down light materials or opening boxes this will do you just fine. It likely wouldn't hold up in a true durability test just from the feel of the blade and its original sharpness but I don't think it was ever trying to be that sort of knife in the first place.

Maybe I missed it, but what alloy is the blade made from?
@Goldenkitten19 жыл бұрын
Any idea when it'll come out? I signed up to be notified when it shows up but I was curious of how CRKT usually handles this sort of thing. Do they always put it up "X" number of weeks before it actually goes on sale, or is the time between it being put up and actually going on sale random for every blade?

We're slated for March, but it might be a little after that. We make the product live on our website when we announce it (usually during SHOT show or Blade Show). Once we feel everyone is sufficiently salivating on their keyboards, we release the product into the market. ;) It's all about when the product is finished and ready to ship. You'll get an email from us when the product is available to purchase. -Ben

Any further word on this? Last we heard it was "slated for March, but it might be a little after that" but here we are getting close to June. And the page on your site really offers no further info. Did something go awry, was there just not enough interest in it for you to actually start stocking it, or is it still something you're planning on carrying? Thanks for any info.

Goldenkitten1 There have been a couple delays on this one as we wait for goods to arrive. A strike with the West Coast longshoremen working at the docks slowed us up considerably. There's TONS of interest in this knife and we're still planning on carrying it. Thanks for being patient. -Ben

CRKT, you say "Taiwan: anything with AUS 8 steel.", but what about G.S.D. and Tighe Dye?
@crkt9 жыл бұрын
I guess I should have clarified that slightly: Almost all things with AUS 8 are from Taiwan. GSD is Taiwan (Blade HQ doesn't have origin right on their site if that's where you're looking). Tighe Dye is China. Good catch. -Ben

Please understand that I'm not 'trolling' here. I've seen other reviews of this product which say it's very handle-heavy (the whole knife is heavy for it's size), the blade geometry is so extreme it's good for little more than chopping tooth-picks and visually it looks like a 1970's disco-ball. Priced between $40 and $50 it's a lame effort considering the Ontario Rat 1 and 2, and Esee Evispa and Zancudo (etc) offer much more for little over half the price.
@crkt8 жыл бұрын
Hey Paul- no worries, we do not think you are "trolling" we appreciate all feedback and opinions whether it is good or bad, so we appreciate you taking the time to share. It is a heavy knife and some people like that while others do not. It is nice to hear all sides before making a choice. Again thanks for your feedback!

In general, I prefer not to support PRC made products due to QA/QC issues and my personal politics. I have had a number of affordable, quality blades from Japan and Taiwan. Both of my U.S. made knives are also sturdy, but understandably not as affordable. The Chinese folding knives I have had thus far have either fallen apart quickly or had assembly issues. I also would prefer not to support the PRC for political reasons. I understand that a brand may decide to choose PRC manufacturing in order to make a product that is more affordable to the consumer. That's fine for that company and that consumer, but I choose to spend my money differently. I would pay slightly more for a Japanese or Taiwanese model, and even more for a US made model of most knives that I am interested in. Are any CRKT products non-PRC?
@crkt9 жыл бұрын
NoBrakes23 Totally understood. I appreciate the honest explanation. The good news is, you're in luck: we make several knives in the U.S. and a lot of blades in Taiwan, plus a couple from Italy and El Salvador. US: search Hoodwork, HCK1, or M16-04A Taiwan: anything with AUS 8 steel. Let me know if you need specific suggestions. -Ben
