You just taught me how not to beat up my thumb opening the squid. Man it's that easy to flick, who knew?

Totally agree. I got mine for under $20 and it is a great EDC.

I usually like niche/expensive knives but I recently picked this up and love it. Action is great and it’s a steal for the price. It absolutely punches above its weight class.

Thanks for some great reviews on knives Wes. Appreciate the level of detail, specially your "why to buy and not to buy" section; right on the money. Your vids have helped me make better purchases, plus learned a bunch of cool knive details. I do carry a CRKT squid black stonewashed version just like the one in your review. Awsome EDC option for me. Smooth roll-opening and I can normally flick it, even with the teflon washers. As you correctly mentioned it packs a bigger punch for its size. In my opinion due to its unique handle shape for my small to medium hands. It maybe a trivial thing but in my opinion this little knife has one of the best "locking sounds" of all the knives in my rotation! Can't explain it any better, but I like it very much. My version has a good detent not weak at all. I've enjoyed the squid even further since I added a small laynard, which I saw in a different video, allowing me to put my pinky through, giving me great additional purchase on heavier cuts. Only negative comment I can make about the squid is that closed, the tip of the clip is almost at the same level of the fairly big thumb studs and at times they catch the seam of my pocket when putting it away. I have to use both hands to position it and put it away in my pocket. But a minor issue I can live with. Thanks again and kudos for your effort!!

Just picked up one today. Absolutely awesome for it's size. Like my Large Batum's baby brother. Such a cool wee knife, rock solid and excellent stone wash.

I just got this knife yesterday, i really like it, i was going around my house finding things to cut, and it keep surprising me on how well it cuts, i wear a size large gloves, took some time to get use to on how to open, but once i did it has a very satisfying snap when opens, it surprisingly feels good in hand, i cut a thick cardboard box and it slide right through without losing grip in hand, it is a good fidget open and close knife i must of opened over 500 times yesterday, when i jolt the blade forward or quick jolt down to up and forward to back the blade does not open for me, i can get my 3.8" crkt m21 to open this way and some of my other knives but not on this one, today is day 2 and this is the knife i keep grabbing, its the best $25 i've spent.

Just got my Squid for Xmas. Currently going through the "break-in" period, but I love that it can ride around in my fifth pocket.

I grabbed the Blade HQ D2 version of the Squid. I like the G10 cause it makes it a bit more grippy and slightly lighter. Also it comes with bronze washers which is nice. To customize it a bit I added one bead also made from G-10 to increase the handle purchase a little bit.

I bought my CRKT Squid from Amazon for under 20 bucks. I've been ordering smaller knives to complement my larger tactical knives. Carrying a tactical knife can get you in trouble these days as most of them are beyond the 3.5 inch limit. Anyway, I love this CRKT Squid and it's become one of my EDC knives along with the Gerber Ayako, a Gerber 1.75 inch blade incorporated into a money clip and a Gerber Mini Paraframe. My one complaint about the Squid is the slippery side opposite the pocket clip. It's so smooth I have to take care I don't slice myself closing it with the one hand motion as it will slip position in my palm. I love the size, profile and that I can open and close it with my right hand (left hand nearly impossible, can open it but cannot close it). Mine does not "flick" open like yours but it is almost out of the box; however, it's not an issue.

I like that you brought up the break in on these types of knives and lock stick. My Razzlecliffe was like that but it's great now.just a couple adjustments and breaking in.

I have spydercos, benchmades, gerbers, vics etc but I find myself carrying this exclusively. It's not necessarily better than the others but it has 2 huge qualities: 1. It's super easy to get it razor blade sharp 2.i it's dependable

Just bought my first one. I got the new squid 2 the limited one with the green micarta. also ordered a spear blade minimalist. They are both great! mines quite a bit different from this one that's why i came here just to compare a bit but its awesome and worth the $

Ohhhh you got the fancy one 🧐. Great choice I’m sure you won’t regret it. I started with one squid and now I have about 10. Don’t know why but 🤷🏻‍♂️

when i got mine, it was absolutely razor sharp out of the box. i even shaved my face with it a little bit and took stubble off. but i heard they were honed by hand, so maybe it differs from knife to knife depending on the guy who honed it. -edited for spelling

I love my Squid. Don’t have to worry about loosing it (like I do with some of my other knives), it’s sturdy, well built, very easy to sharpen, holds a good edge.

By pocket clip why are there those three divets engraved in the metal? I am trying to find an answer as to what the purpose of that is if anyone can help.

I think it has a fatal flaw in the frame lock-up. I've had mine open up cliped in pocket. It is a dangerous little sucker. I don't trust it.

I got a squid for around the house stuff and opening packages. It is fuller than my butter knives. I have no idea how to make it sharper. Ugh. It’s basically useless to me although I have learn to one hand open/close so I guess it’s a good fidget toy.

The 8CR13MOV steel is horrible on the squid , Spyderco 8CR13MOV cuts like 440C....get the D2 version of the squid because the 8CR13MOV steel sucks , horrible edge retention
