How can I make this pattern bigger besides using a larger hook? I would LOVE to make large hot pads!!

Hi.. There’s no other way to make it bigger except using the larger hooks. And the reason is each pattern has its own limitations. This one limits here. You can try with some more squares but then you will have to manage the knots as well. I’m sorry for that.. Happy Crocheting..🧶🧶🧶
