When you say to chain 40 or "however long you need for it to fit around your calf"...... it would've been nice to know it needed to be in multiples of 3. On row 6 when I completed the shells, I found this out the hardy way and had to completely start over.

I have a question regarding stitch count. You mentioned that you used 40 stitches to start, but what are the multiples if I need I make in a different size, so my shells come out and I have the correct number of stitches. I hope I'm making sense. I love this tutorial and have to say you truly are the absolute Best teacher I have ever seen!! Thank you so very much for this great tute!
@helenmaycrochet84119 жыл бұрын
+Beth Nicholas. Hi Beth! Thank you very much for the nice compliment! I tested a small sample by increasing in increments of 3 and it worked well. Let me know if you run into any troubles. You could also start out smaller in the lower part of the boot cuff and increase higher up in the calf, before you start doing your shells. When you have completed your double crochets for the length you want before the shells, you can do increase rounds to the size you need for the decorative shells. For example, 1sc in 2 stitches, 2sc in the third stitch, and repeating that pattern around until you have the size you need for around the calf. If you have difficulty with this, let me know the size you are trying to achieve, and I will help you with it. I hope that you have a great day!

+HelenMay Crochet no she was saying you said which crochet hook you used, but didn't say what weight yarn you used. Sometimes the yarn says size 5mm hook but people use a 6mm, so that's why she was asking.
@helenmaycrochet84118 жыл бұрын
Hi Tails! I also explain the type of yarn I used in the beginning of the video tutorial. Yes, the yarn sometimes has a free pattern with a size hook to use, but you can use different sized hooks depending on the pattern used. I appreciate your input. Have a wonderful day!!

I'm working on making these boot cuffs as xmas gifts, looks like such a great pattern. I have a question, how many dc should you have in a row? I have 40, but when I do the next step, I have 3 spaces instead of two when I finish the round.
@helenmaycrochet84117 жыл бұрын
Hi Linda! When I made the video tutorial, I chained 40, but when I made the additional chain 3 and then made a double crochet into the 4th chain from the hook, I changed the stitch count to 41. If you followed me in the video tutorial, then you may have had 3 spaces instead of 2, but you could still slip stitch and join, and it wouldn't be noticeable. However, to end with only 2 spaces, then you need to get a stitch count of 40 (or multiple of 4). To do this, make a chain of 39, and then make the additional chain 3 and make a double crochet into the 4th chain from the hook. This should give you a true stitch count of 40. Please let me know if you need any additional help. :)

Hi Janice!! This crochet boot cuff can be changed into a leg warmer. You will be crocheting from the bottom up. So, just continue to crochet until you have completed the length that you would like. Leave approximately 2 inches for the top of the leg warmer design. :)

@Laura I agree. By the time you're done with your first 5 rows of double crochet and you start on the fans, you'll probably have got the hang of the double crochet so no reason to explain every DC thereafter. That being said, I did enjoy the pattern, never knew about the reverse fan, I've only done the first 3 DC of the fan, never the 4 extra ones. Nice!
