The average 6 year old female head circumference is about 21.5" With that in mind, this should just be a bit smaller than that so that it stays on the head. The elastic in the back will help make it stretch to the correct size.

The yarn I'm using in this one is Thread Art Cotton Yarn. Thread Art is the manufacturer, and Cotton Yarn is the name of that particular yarn.

Use a DK weight yarn and a smaller hook. That way you can follow the same pattern but it'll be smaller.

Only just started watching and you said about having 30 stitches on the top and then 30 on the bottom.... Do you mean the actual original 30 stitches as I'm a bit confused! And for some reason the video just keeps stopping (but that could be the UK weather as we're expecting storms!)

It's 30 single crochet stitches total around the elastic. It works out to 8 on top, 8 on bottom (16) then 7 on the right side and 7 on the left side (14) for a grand total of 30 stitches. If you want to alter that number because your elastic is smaller or larger than mine, just keep in mind the 8 on top and 8 on bottom to support the band's stitch pattern. Then you can put any number (increase, decrease) on both sides, as long as it's the same to make it look correct.
