I bought issue 1 because it was only £0.99. Definitely value for your money. I will be buying issue 2. Depending on the projects, buy a few more issues. In my opinion, it won't be cost effective to continue with all of the issues. Firstly: The cost for the magazine, the yarn and not for getting my time. It's too pricey for my budget to make the end project. Secondly: It was difficult to find a shop that sells the magazine. I bought it from a major WH Smith store in a shopping centre. It came to my knowledge that standard magazines are now quite expensive (£7.99) and their contents filled with advertisements. Finally, if one is passionate, in learning a new skill, paying £5.99 over a period of several months, maybe a good idea. These skills can also be learnt from purchasing a few good books along with our KZbin tuturals. GOOD LUCK!!

Hi Tracy. Bought this yesterday. When they bring out these things I always buy the first one for 99p for the free yarn you get. Then I don't bother again!!! I did collect all the partworks of the Golden Hands one in the 70s which I've still got, but they were proper magazines that you put together in a binder not the ring binder type ones you get now. Used to do lacy knitting and crochet as a teenager so might give it a go. Not bothering to buy any more of these though x

I have bought 3 at 99p as love the cotton yarn. Will prob buy next 2 but then stop as there are about 120 issues so about £700 and with 1 a week it will be a long haul.

Partworks used to be more popular in the 70s/80s before the rise of KZbin and the internet but they always worked out very expensive if you bought the entire series. Nowadays there's so much info available online and excellent tutorials, mostly for free. I have knitted for many years but am only recently learning to crochet, mostly by following YT tutorials and a beginner's crochet instruction book. Even the yarn and tools are available on Amazon and elsewhere online. On the other hand, the 'free' gifts with this kind of partwork can be useful for a complete newbie who hasn't access to a helpful yarn shop and hasn't a clue what to buy online. It's a very expensive way to learn though.

Thank you for doing this “unboxing” I was curious but like all these weekly things that come in parts, it’s far too expensive. I don’t really know what they’re thinking when they publish these, or how they expect people to afford them! You did a great job explaining it all so I hope nobody gets “caught” by the marketing ploy!!!

i guess they think its easier for people to pay monthly and won't miss it. BUT i think that they are just too over priced and these days people do miss it

I would buy the first 2 issues but not after that: I have subscribed to 4 channels that have tutorials just for intimidatingly beautiful lace for all purposes. I have actually been thinking of making myself lace curtains but I am paralysed by the choice. One channel I subscribe does almost exclusively lace trims for garments: lace for sleeves, neck hem, beaded or otherwise, and some earrings. The reason I would buy the magazine at all is for inspiration and a reminder - but I would most like go for the tutorial on KZbin. I don't care if the tutorials are in the "wrong" language because even if the translator gets it wrong, I can just watch instead.

I only ever buy the first issue of these craft part works. The yarn and crochet hook are lovely. The patterns useful and even the cardboard inner is great to make templates for patchwork etc. I have a moth hole in a cashmere sweater and that hook is the perfect size to help me fix it. All for 99p. Happy days 😊 ❤

See something similar in US bookstores in the magazine, craft section. As I am more of a knitter, have just done a couple of crochet things. I do pick up some of the releases ? issues ?, if interested in the designs shown or the other inclusions, hooks, needles, blocking board. Don't remember seeing those that are a set of three. But if I find the pattern interesting I might pick up a copy.

These multipart issue magazines are also available here in Australia. The very first 3-4 magazines cost approximately $2-$3 each, which is very cheap, encouraging the consumer to purchase. By the time you purchase the fifth part issue depending on the magazine they can cost in the vicinity of $23+ per magazine. When purchasing these magazines you need to understand how many issues there in the series-sometimes there maybe up to 100+ more issues, and how much per issue as some of these can cost well over $2000. Here in Australia we had a part issue magazine. I think it was either the Titanic or the endeavour each fortnight a new magazine was released with specific parts to build the model. Your newsagent will hold the magazines for you and you go and collect them or you have the option of having them home delivered for an additional delivery fee including purchasing the binders to go to hold Your part issues. If you are considering collecting these magazines you really need to decide if this is something you are willing to commit and invest in. You do not want to get halfway through collecting these magazines only to realise it’s becoming too costly as you’ve already in some cases may have spent quite a lot of money and you don’t want to miss releases as you can’t afford to miss pieces that are vital in completing the project, so think very carefully before you make the commitment.

Hi Tracy, unfortunately the first subscription of these magazines is always cheap with the intention of getting the buyer to continue purchasing all following issues, I have fallen for that in the past but as the previous subscriber wrote she bought 3 copies because it worked out cheaper than buying the yarn and that is about all I would do, I find lots of beautiful free patterns on KZbin and I don't leave home to get them, thanks for sharing and stay well.

The throw after buying all the magazine issues will cost you in excess of £600, even more if you have to buy extra yarn. It's just not worth it. The pattern s for these things normally become available after the last issue of the magazine.

This series is going to be 120 issues, so 120 * £5.99 =£718.80 that is one expensive throw, even if you take out the cost of the yarn, that will make the cost of the patterns in excess of £500. No thanks! I got caught up in a Disney baking & sweets one of these & I don’t think I made any of the recipes most were not new to me, some of the included items were very good, but most of them are unopened in a box in my loft! Think long & hard about getting caught up in these legal money scamming periodicals, the issuers will make an absolute fortune from this one type, no doubt they will have others either in the pipeline or already available.
