Crochet Mandala Top Tutorial

I made this for my 15 year old daughter. I learned to crochet this year. One of the best things about the pattern is that it is meant to be messy and mismatched. So if you make a mistake, just keep going, adds character. It is really fabulous that you shared this pattern for free on the internet - thank you!!

I do agree with another commenter who said it was a little hard to follow sometimes though :( for me this was mainly just for the straps, and for the increases on each row (maybe put the increases needed for each row on the screen next time?) but thats me just being super picky tbh and it really is a great tutorial! thanks again

this tutorial is definitely not beginner friendly, I'm having trouble following and I've been crocheting for years now. I loved your mermaid top tutorial but with this one, I kept having to rewind a lot to see what you did that was not mentioned in the written or verbal instructions. Beginners: don't forget to chain 2 at the beginning of the double crochet rows if not specified and when first making the circle, make all of the double crochets in the middle circle, not the chains. The top turned out so cute but it was a lot of frogging and rewinding for me!

Im sorry you feel like this. I tried to explain it the best I could… I didn’t think it would be that difficult as it’s merely a combination of basic techniques ( that would be very beneficial for a beginner to do ). Maybe my perspective of what’s easy or not is a bit skewed. Sorry Xx

@@livtully it's ok! I think maybe you just forgot to say some chains or where to put the stitches or how much to chain because it is common knowledge when you've done it so much. Thanks for the tutorial!

For the "chain 2 at the beginning of the double crochet rows", does that also count for the row of half double crochet (row 4, at 3:48) ? I'm trying to see from the video but it's very blurry so it's hard to see :(

@@TheLanonyme yeah at the beginning of each row start with a chain 2 because that makes a double crochet (idk if that makes sense). also if you were to make a treble crochet I would recommend chaining 3 but its not really the end of the world 😅

okay i love the top and you give some great tips BUT in the future you should probably narrate that you increase at the start of most rows! i don't think it is as hard to follow as everyone says but i only realized i needed to be increasing after my top started curving :/ it still looks rly cute and just makes it that much more unique! tysm for such a cute idea

@@luciapons5124 yeah, I think I’ve become used to throwing colloquial crochet terms around. I watched threw the video last night just to see where I caused confusion. What type of yarn do you use? Your yarn looks way softer than the cotton yarn I use!

For this top I used a mixture of cottons. I use vinnis Colours, cotton from John lewis. Try use Dk cotton or dk light worsted Xx

Yeah I will do :) I thought that the stitches I used were pretty easy. Because they are straight forward stitches just used differently to get the design. I see quite a lot of people are having difficulty with it. :)

Thank you for the video im working on mine rn🤍🤍 i think the main confusion i’m seeing in the comments is you sometimes skip mentioning the number stitches per row (increases, starting stitches, etc) and go straight into explaining what type of stitch it is, and the text included in the video doesnt always match the number of stitches you actually make but rather just a portion of what the pattern is. I’m adding along stitches based off what I know from previous experience rather than following text,, apart from that, i’m able to smoothly follow along. Def not for a beginner , u lost the counting of the rows that literally I’m confused😏 and you didn’t count the stitches of every row . It’s a beautiful top tho !

It's a lovely top but the instructions are rubbish. I had to go back and add extra stitches as it was starting to curl. You're better off writing this pattern and get rid of this video because you really pissed off some people (me including) with the lack of clear instructions and very rushed directions and not to mention out focus or frame filming.
