Hi Claire , thank you for this tutorial . As always very easy to follow. I took this pattern and made potholders out of it . I made 2 identical pieces , I used 100% cotton yarn and I used a 4 mm hook ( G) , I stopped at row 6 ( 3 DC in each chain space) , then I joined the 2 pieces together with SC all around. Then I just put a boarder around it with a loop ( for hanging) Came out so good ! Thank you again !

I answered my own question. If you are in America, and using Lily Sugar and Cream cotton yarn, you want to use a F5 3.75mm crochet hook. That gives you approximately a 12.5 inch placemat. The design is absolutely beautiful!! Thank you for your easy to follow tutorial!

Thank you for the tutorial and pattern link. I was looking for a Christmas tree skirt to crochet but they all are pretty much the same big stars which I didn't want. I saw your placemat and decided to adapt the pattern to make a tree skirt. I started with a starting chain of sc (40) and continued with the pattern working the first set-up row for the 3 doubles crocheted together. I added an extra double crochet at each end of the row so it would lay flat and joined to the beginning chain at the end of each row. This kept the sides flat and the project to lay flat. I used two shades of red, two shades of green and soft white. When finished I worked up a chain of 125 and weaved it through the first row so it could be tied around the trunk of the tree if needed. It looks amazing. Thanks for the pattern inspiration.

With all my respect, I would to correct a little point: when you are going to begin a chain of three double crochets together, the first chain has to be with only two crochets and when you come to close, you close on top of the first double crochet. Your work is beautiful 🤩 28:56

hi, this could be for a couple of different reasons. it could be that you are using the wrong hook for your yarn or that your tension is too tight. it will ruffle a little bit before blocking but should lay flat. what size yarn and hook or you using?

@@CrochetwithClare what a great tutorial!! I'm making a set for my daughter. Since it's the beginning of November I decided to make them in Christmas colors. I wanted to do fall colors for Thanksgiving but I'm not sure I can finish 6 of them in time. I'm using big twist twinkle yarn from jo-ann's. I'm using four different colors a green, red, blue and white. The skeins have a sparkly thread running through it so it's really pretty. I started with green then went to red then white then blue and repeated. I surprised myself with just how nice it looks. Thanks for sharing your talent. God bless! 🕊️🕯️🙏💛

I'm working on this set for the second time (two pieces of each). Both times for wedding gifts in the couples' colors. I just finished two placemats, next will do the napkin rings and coasters. I'll post photos after the wedding just in case she's subscribed I don't spoil the surprise. I'm using red Heart SS and another acrylic. I hope it'll be OK. Maybe I'll tell them don't use it with hot stuff because I didn't realize until reading comments that it might melt. :(

bobwilson123 unfortunately, I didn't get to finish it before the wedding last week. My cousin knows I'm making something, she just doesn't know what. After they get back from their honeymoon, she's going to send me her address so I can mail it to her since she will no longer be living in Washington State. She'll be in Arizona where he currently lives for awhile until he's able to start practicing law in Washington, but until then, he can only practice law in Arizona for the first few years or so. She's excited to see what I'm making for them. I just need to finish. I won't take me to long, I just need to find the time to do it.

@CrochetwithClare
@CrochetwithClare 6 жыл бұрын
Yes I think so.... The pattern has a repeat I guess you can try to continue the repeat and then east time add an extra stitch to make it bigger....so the dc's together, if they were 3 together in the previous section, do 4 Other than adding each time that repeat comes around, like the chains, I would have to sit down for hours to see if it works

Hello @@jessiec2326, it's so frustrating how the same weight of yarn can be different, isn't it!? Good luck, let me know how it turns out.

Norman Newton The only thing I can think of is that you need to use a smaller hook, OR you have accidentally made to many clusters in previous rounds ? Thank you for the great feedback and for watching my videos

My place mat is definitely larger than the 11.5 inch diameter mentioned in the pattern. Mine is more like 15 inches even though I used the recommended hook size and worsted weight. Anyone else notice this?
@CrochetwithClare
@CrochetwithClare 9 жыл бұрын
Brad T Casali Hello, I am not sure on what brand of WW yarn they used in the written pattern, sometimes yarn can be the same thickness of yarn according to the label, but if you compare the thickness of the yarn they are different...also tension can make items turn out a different size

How can we make the mat larger?
@CrochetwithClare

Hello, the easiest way is to use thicker yarn and a bigger hook or use multiple strands of yarn and a big hook. I am not sure how to add more rounds to this pattern

Did you use 100% acrylic? Can I use a cotton combination?
@CrochetwithClare
@CrochetwithClare 6 жыл бұрын
Hello, yes you can use any yarn for this project, if you want to use really hot item on them, please use cotton because it may melt if acrylic
@CrochetwithClare
@CrochetwithClare 6 жыл бұрын
Hello, the original written pattern design is made in cotton so if you use the same cotton in the written pattern they there will be no difference The yarn I have used in this project is 10ply or worsted weight acrylic, if you use the ame thickness there will be no difference

Can you wash this finished product?
@CrochetwithClare
@CrochetwithClare 2 жыл бұрын
yes, you can wash your finished items. if you used cotton or acrylic, then you can machine wash and dry them. If you are using wool, I suggest hand washing and laying flat to dry.
