Wow! This is a great video tutorial. I made this hat yesterday after my granddaughter asked for a ruffled hat. The ruffles are very “labor intensive” (LOL) but come out beautiful 😍 And thank you so much for showing how & why to add the elastic band… genius!

Hi. If I didn't use elastic, I would have worked row 14 as : "1SC in each st around"... But, with that, the ruffles wouldn't be as plenty and densed due to less stitches in row 14.

You've done nothing wrong. The final size depends on the yarn, hook size and tension. Just work one more row of increase to get it to 6.5 inches.

Hi. You could buy one but if not possible, you can actually wear the hat like that. The elastic band was just to help maintain the hat's shape.

Maybe you have added extra stitches or you are missing some stitches. I'm not sure. Just make sure to count the total of number of stitches after every row to make sure it's the same as mine.
