I made a water bottle cover as one of my first big projects using only single crochet! great for working in the round! Also, I've bought a few crochet books at costco that helped me when I was a beginner. I have their Star Wars themed amigurumi kit and another one that is Jurassic Park themed. They come with yarn and a hook, and very clear instructions in my opinion.

A crochet chicken! it is so easy to crochet because it is pretty much just a basket, what you need to know is magic ring increase and decreases but they can be easy to learn
