@@hulkslayer626 maybe your rights to safety should be more important than everyone’s right to bear arms. Strict gun laws are a good thing and Countries like Australia and New Zealand who have had the worst mass shootings to ever happen in history, have proved that by making gun laws very strict and stopped mass shootings altogether, meanwhile you guys have one like almost every day. I know what Country I would rather live in. The safer one with the sane people.
@hulkslayer626
@hulkslayer626 Ай бұрын
@ozzybloke-craig3690 ummmm... ok. I think you misunderstood what I was saying. The joke is that since she is from New York, she would be familiar with guns. That is incorrect. If she was from.. idk, Ohio, she would be much more likely to be familiar with guns. Especially a rifle, which is the gun in question. I live in New Jersey, which has similarly strict gun laws, and am 43 years old and with the exception of the shooting range (which I have been to twice in my life) and on the hips of police officers, I have never seen a gun in person. So yeah... wasn't making a "political statement" or commenting on the validity of gun control... just pointing out that while I still found the joke funny, it is actually an unfounded stereotype. Hope this helps clear things up for you.

@hulkslayer626 There's a slight issue with your reply. NY has some of the best deer hunting in the upper east US. It has some gorgeous forests and sprawling farm & hunting lands. Paul Hogan didn’t expect this movie to be a world wide success. He made it basically for Australia. He got the idea when he went to New York for the first time and people thought he was Scottish. Funny thing they put the quotes around Crocodile for the US release cause they thought Americans were so stupid they’d think that Dundee was a real crocodile. When he was in New York he really did say “G’day” to everyone he saw. 11:08 that crocodile has lived a great bachelor life in a wildlife park in Australia. He’s still alive and kicking. What Dundee did by hugging her after the croc attacked her was the proper thing to do cause when someone goes into shock they have a sudden drop of blood flow and can even get hypothermia and the hugging helps keep the core body warm. 23:47 one of the most quoted (and misquoted) movie phrases of all time.

This is the second review I've seen of this in the past month, and in both I have noticed how much criticism Sue gets and I have mixed feelings about it. Richard was obviously someone she was with because of their work relationship, social standing and education. I doubt that she took that first look at him and was turned on. But Mick, there was an instant and undeniable pull. She has a near death experience and develops an emotional connection with him as well. Of course she got swept off her feet. Then they get back to NY and she is pulled out of the fantasy she was in and goes back to her regular life, where she has this previous existence that she now has to make peace with. Richard is safe, if she hadn't gone to Australia then things are exactly as she would've wanted them to be. But there is still that undeniable pull to Mick. Then another near death experience where he saves her. It's no wonder it looked like she was flip-flopping, she had to meld both lives together to see what result would be best.
@astranoel895
@astranoel895 Ай бұрын
Thank you!! I was literally about to write this exact comment and am so glad I found this! I've watched quite a few reactions to this movie and it seems the male reactors in particular are quick to write Sue off as basically an unfaithful b***h. Not saying that all her behaviours were admirable but I certainly understand. She had her safe, predictable sheltered life in pretty high society NY and Richard was just the kind of guy who fit into that. He didn't necessarily excite her but he was the type of dude she would have been expected to be with and she was content with him. And maybe if she had never met Mick she probs would have married Richard...though I doubt it would have lasted. But Mick! He got all her bells ringing, both in the "exotic" situation of Australia and back home in her regular life. I think once he showed that, despite initial discomfort and unfamiliarity, he could still be the same capable, genuine, charismatic, protective person in NY too, and by comparison Richard's behaviour was now shown up to be horribly arrogant, presumptious and obnoxious, it was game over. And then she had to do that little panic dance in her mind trying to figure out what to do, when Richard blindsided her with the proposal (which, as they rightly pointed out, she never actually said yes to). Just thanks again! Finally😂
@dannykent6190
@dannykent6190 Ай бұрын
I've seen plenty of female reactors come to the same conclusion. Bottom line, she was unfaithful at best. Playing both men at worst... but this was the 80s, and Hollywood in the 80s was very much of the mindset that men were cheaters, and women were "torn between two lovers." It's a double standard that I'm happy to see the younger generation finds uncomfortable.
@RobertMorgan
@RobertMorgan Ай бұрын
@@dannykent6190 It's almost a rejection of the meta of storytelling. You're SUPPOSED to cheer for her falling in love with Mick, that's what the writing and the genre tells you to think, but if you look at it from a real life perspective, Richard IS a dick, but she's the dick SHE choose to be in a committed relationship with, so it makes her the bad guy to be unfaithful, UNLESS she broke it off with him and decided to pursue Mick as single. If it was THAT easy to change her mind, that marriage would have never lasted, because she'd have left him for the NEXT Mick that came along.
@TimParker-Chambers
@TimParker-Chambers Ай бұрын
 @RobertMorgan With the knowledge which Crocodile Dundee II adds, I think that perhaps Mick reminded her of her first husband, Bob. With all his overseas ClA shenanigans, Bob would've been exciting, but couldn't give the stable presence which Sue wanted, so they divorced. And then she met Richard, who, despite clearly being a pretentious douche, would have fit what she thought she wanted for 'stable life'. But then she met Mick, who was able to provide both the excitement *and* the stability, while being completely down to earth in a way Richard could never be 👍👍👍👍

"That's not a knife. *That's* a knife." In the 1980's, Paul Hogan did commercials for the Australian Tourism Commission in an effort to get more people to visit and vacation in Australia. In the commercials, Paul Hogan famously said, "I'll slip an extra shrimp on the barbie for you". They used the word shrimp instead of prawn because they knew that word was more common in the USA. Also, this film actually got an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Screenplay. The lead star Paul Hogan also co-wrote the script and got nominated as a result.

'You can't take my picture.' 'Oh. You're afraid that my camera will steal your spirit?' 'No. The len's cap's still on.' This is one of the screenplay's in the late 80's I purchased to use as a template to learn how to write screenplays. This script is top-shelf. The beauty of the sequel is they flip the script on the narrative structure of the first one where The Croc starts out having been living in NY with Linda Kasowski, plot occurs, sh*t happens, they have to high tail it for the second half back to the Outback. This isn't a spoiler as the plot summary includes this as well as the trailer. But she becomes the fish out of water in the second one and some cool surprises for the characters as a result. The rare case where they super-sized the follow up and it is equal if not surpasses the original.

Linda Kozlowski, who played Sue Charlton, left the Hollywood scene citing a lack of fulfilling roles and the pressures of the industry. The rumour has it however that after she married Hogan in 1990, he didnt want her to continue to work as an actress. Which is a shame The couple eventually divorced in 2003. Kozlowski now leads a quieter life, running a tourist business in Marrakesh.

It was the second-highest-grossing film in the United States in 1986 (Top Gun was number 1), beating Aliens, Platoon and Ferris Beuller's Day Off. It's also the highest-grossing non-US film at the US box office ever and was the second-highest-grossing film WORLDWIDE for the year. It was nominated for an Oscar for Screenplay and won the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a comedy. I recommend other classic Aussie films: COMEDIES: The Castle, Priscilla Queen of the Desert, Muriel's Wedding, Strictly Ballroom. DRAMAS: Storm Boy,. Gallipoli. She pretended it wasn't a big deal so she could get the story, but I think she was also trying to decide what she wanted, figuring she had two on the line and if it played out before she could decide, then she wouldn't have to. As time went on, she realized she wanted Mick. But yeah, dishonest of her to keep this all to herself. It's wrong to play with people like that. By the way, you should probably react to the sequel. It was a bit different where it goes, actually more actiony, with bad guys, etc. I'd call it as good, in its own way, as the first, arguably better.

After the sequel to this gem, you have to watch "Lightning Jack". Its a hilarious Paul Hogan film that is criminally underrated.

Thanks for doing this one. It's nice when we get a personable protagonist. When I was in the US Navy my battlegroup visited Sydney. In the nightclubs the women would be dancing with each other, and the men would be in the back drinking each other the table. Nice. Fish in a barrel. The second one is good, but I liked this one better. That said, without a spoiler, kudos to the guy that plays the heavy.

Paul and Linda started dating during the making of this movie. The got married before Croc Dundee 2 came out. Paul is a famous comedic actor down under. Known especially for the Fosters commercials, "Shrimp on the barbee".

It's really quite interesting how big this guy and this movie was back in the mid 80s. Like HUGE. I watched the movie in the cinema and then several more times on VHS and on TV. As kids we were quoting it all the time (more likely for like few months) and just loved the whole thing. Not being native English speaker certainly did not help us understand many of the jokes, but we still loved the movie and the character. And that woman...damn! BTW, where do you guys live? What state I mean. I don't know if it is the kind of information you share or not. For some reason I always thought you were in Texas. I am not American so I am not exactly very good with recognizing accents.
