It was a neighbour who drew the police's attention to the cess tank in the garage. Apparently, at a party he 'jokingly' said to a guest that he had the perfect means to dispose of a body if he ever decided to take up writing crime fiction! The neighbour had overheard this and when it became obvious to her that the police were actively searching for Helen she tipped off the officers. That's not to imply the police wouldn't have found her without this information but they would have been pleased the neighbour came forward.

I remember this case so well, Zoe. Helen was obviously devastated by the death of her first husband and subsequently she met this character. I saw an excerpt of Loose Women where Helen was on talking about bereavement and I remember her finishing with something like "I'm in a better place now as I've met someone" You could see in her eyes and the tone of her voice how much she cared for this individual. I think, although I stand to be corrected, she may have dedicated on of her books to him.. It is beyond description the evil that was brought to bear on that poor woman. The word "Appalling" does not cover it adequately. To misquote, "Hell, itself, will feel defiled when this evil scum finally turns up there"

The production of this video is high quality! I never heard of Helen Bailey before this, but from just the short video of her speaking about her book and the short paragraph from her webpage at 3:08, I can tell she was a charming, witty, and thoughtful woman. *She deserved a hell of a lot better than a repulsive loser like Ian Stewart!*

There is a black & white photo of Helen holding little Boris and next to them on the step just below there is Helen's murderer - just take a look at Boris's expression if he could talk, I think he would be saying "Move an inch closer to my mistress and I will bite your f***ing head off" Boris clearly despises Ian and rightly so, what an absolute tragedy and such a horrific ending R.I.P Helen & Boris xxx

The scariest part of all this is that when she was alive, she had no idea that this monster had absolute no feelings for her. She changed her will to include him and was even looking at wedding photos. She didn't tell her family or friends about any big fights or problems they were having in their relationship. There were no obvious red flags. Its crazy to think that he did such a good job of pretending to love her even though he couldn't care less about her. This was evident in the way he killed her.

Dear Women, pls believe your gut instincts. Don’t go looking for men when you are vulnerable because your guard is down and you are less likely to make a good choice. Fall in love with yourself and give yourself time to heal and mend your own broken heart. No man is going to do that for you. This vile man has ‘nasty’ written all over his face and i would have avoided him like covid but poor Helen couldn’t see it, or refused to believe her instincts. He must have given her cause for cencern. But she was totally blind to it (or perhaps finally woke up which prompted him to kill her). When that ‘special’ man shows you a glimpse of his real nasty streak, get rid of him. Countless forgivenesses and crocodile tears will only make him worse in the long term because he will know that you are naive and vulnerable. And please don’t give men your banking details. Their are some things that you don’t have to share at all. What a waste of an amazing woman whilst that vile excuse for a human remains alive. RIp Helen and doggy. Rot in hell murderer.

It is so sad because Helen was grieving the loss of her husband when sicko came into her life. They met through a grieving blog and were just close friends at first. He was also "grieving" the loss of his wife. Then he must have caught onto the fact that Helen was quite wealthy so he decided to latch onto her even tighter to ensure he'd get his grimey hands on her money! SICKENING!

I'm always astounded by the stupidity and arrogance of people (usually men) who think that they are able to outwit the combined intelligence, experience and resources of the police in cases such as this. Even more so, now that the police have access to the sophisticated technology that allows them to create a convincing and evidentially sound counter argument to the claims of the perpetrator. Nor can I properly appreciate the callousness of an individual who, for whatever 'reasons', chooses to take another person's life. Perhaps the former is simply an expression of the egotist's belief that he and his desires and abilities are 'superior' and not to be governed by ordinary, accepted rules of behaviour. In any case, this man's act - both the crime itself and the nature of its execution, rank with the worst of its kind.

What a sad story, it’s always the worst when someone’s life is overly difficult and then they die in tragedy. The world is a cruel place some people truly get the short end of this stick. No wonder Shakespeare’s tragedies are so important to literature. He understood the evil out there and saw where things would go. Now we don’t even need tragic ‘stories’ when real life is more tragic than most could even imagine. And so many people out there live in a bubble thinking the world is a good place. That’s why I watch true crime. It’s humbling and makes me realize how good I have it for the most part. I have my problems but at least I’m alive and haven’t been killed or overdosed like many people I know or I guess I mean that I knew.

For me, the lesson is to be grateful for what we have. I also love watching true crime and thank my blessings. I don’t think Helen had a terrible tragically sad life before her murder. She had a good marriage to the first guy, but then struggled to move on. The real lesson is don’t wallow so long in grief that life can get even worse than you imagined. She had money and could have lived independently and happy in London, but she defined herself too much as a widow with trauma and ended up with even worse outcome. Looking so much at your past means you can’t see your present and the risks around you. Anyway wish you well :)
