We will be over there soon although we will be mainly in Sanur. We will still be careful. Thanks Muzza. Many years ago I changed money early in the morning and then when travelling around the island I asked my wife to check our money and sure enough I was short. Later that afternoon I went back to the money changer and gave him 3 choices 1. I asked for my short fall back 2. I would call the tourist police or #. later that night I would torch his hut. Quick as a flash I got my money back exactly without me telling him how much I was short changed. He had a good memory.

I had two girls I met in that pool hall near old man's try to get me drunk, or drug me. She kept shoving her drink in my face, but she was also drunk and I could tell they were nervous. I was curious so I declined the drink and hung out with them for a bit, and eventually I caught the nervous one trying to get her hand in my pocket. I jus said "Are you trying to pick my pocket?" I met a young woman last week who had her phone stolen in Sky Garden. I’ve met many men who’ve had theirs taken, always walking alone late at night, along the area you described. My Balinese friends who work around there have told me to be very careful, that there’s organized criminal gangs from overseas etc (it’s not the Balinese). It’s happening a lot, and rarely reported.

While travelling in Africa (Tanzania) I carry a false cheap wallet with some useless plastic cards, a very low note and the rest is cut up paper to fill it out a bit. Its in a back pocket or easy access part of bag. My real cash is well tucked away. As it happens ive never been pickpocketed but this tactic has worked well for a few people I passed the tip onto

Need to be careful of card hacking also. Was there for 2 months earlier this year & dispute my sister being hyper vigilant, never letting go of her card/ keeping safe on her at all times or in the hotel safe, her card was hacked & bank didn’t stop multiple withdrawals in a row & as she didn’t have mobile roaming on at the time she missed the banks notification, (which was basically after it happened), & account was emptied - fortunately not a lot in the account but was told unable to get another card until returning home. Didn’t need to call you Muzza as I had my cards still but since I often travel alone I’ll be using something like Wise next time.

Muzza,my daughter came back from Bali last week and said the prices have increased a lot, and.that most places she went to eat they all now charge 21% tax on top of advertised pricing. Is this normal now in Bali.
@estheronajourneytocontentm10975 ай бұрын
Yes prices are going up. Bali has always had ++ tax usually (+service, +government tax), which now varies eg could be +10%+11% calculated by adding on the 10% first & then adding on the 11% of that value I.e. Will be slightly higher than just the 21%). But more places now advertising nett prices which is so much easier/better when calculating your total cost. Still great value to be had by checking out prices & such a great place.

I used to live in bali for a while and now go back every year for a month.. I never dress flashy or wealthy, and never carry anything worth value (the less in your pockets the better) - i pre-pay bluebird taxis and gojek, and only carry a small amount of cash if walking around. A holiday debit card is also fantastic as many ATMs and machines in bali are a card skimmers wet dream.. The money exchange guys are the most ruthless ive found, so top up that holiday card and withdraw from a BANK ATM.. Lock your suitcases in your room when not in there.. and leave wallets, IDs, cameras, laptops or ipads in there. And if travelling with kids, get bluebird taxis everywhere, prepaid from destination to destination. It limits the stress and possibility that you are focusing on the kids and get a phone stolen or whatever. All that said, bali is still such a great place and ive never had an issue - these are just precautionary measures.. Happy holidays people!

Good video muzz, with every piece of paradise has a dark side. I used to sit at apache bar sucking bintangs and watch the local lads doing the pick poketing show on legian, same local crew working the area, worked in a group of around 4 or 5 and would pick a pocket and pass it on to the there mate if who would swiftly pass by and then pass it off to there other mate. The wallet or phone would pass through 3 hands within 5 seconds. When the local banjar were working the streets they would be nowhere to be seen. Sadly these locals are from neighbouring islands who struggle to get into genuine work and fall into the crime scene, bit this is a world wide siuation so it everywhere

I still remember this very well and am very surprised I wasn't attacked or jumped by them all.
