Croesor Rhosydd Through Trip

This popular and exciting mine trip connects the disused slate mines of Croesor which lies high on the slopes of Cwm Croesor, and Rhosydd which is situated on the watershed of Bwlch Rhosydd between Cwm Croesor and Cwm Orthin.

Walked past the opening of Croesor today. Wondered why it looked so different to the rest of the mines! Incredible how deep they were able to get and how much rock they moved

First time i did tis trip there were no safety lines and we crossed three bridges, each more rotten than the last. Final lake crossed in 6 quid woolworths inflatable that punctured on old support cable. This look a lot easier now

sounds about right, the first big caven in croesor above the incline has changrd shape.two semi-friends had to be rescued from there.

Looks allot safer than when I did it back in the nineties. Nothing had been cabled and the bridges were just stupid. Good memories..

I agree. Lots has collapsed since those days.

What a shame it's been sanitised.. It was much more of an adventure back in the day. No bridges and cableways, you had to brave the rotting bridges across the two chambers and then you either had to swim the last pool or take a dinghy. And always much more fun in fancy dress!! Still looks like a good trip though.

It was exactly as you describe the first time I did it. Unfortunately since then a tunnel has collapsed necessitating the crossing of another lake, and the zip line is great fun. Also the rotten bridges were in imminent danger of total collapse.

@@CaverKeith I guess that was inevitable. Those bridges have been rotting away for years. Zip line does look fun!!

The slate was deep underground.
