In a movie full of sublime dialogue, the sheer number of timeless quotes in this one scene…

One of the best scenes of the film and it is good to open the film with it. Shows just how versatile HArris was as an actor. I loved him, Burton, and O'toole.

Heartbroken. He wanted to meet his fans in March. Can't believe it, he was so full of life. He deserved much more love and recognition.

He did! Last time I checked the BBC hadn’t reported on his passing which is a shame. I loved his voice…so distinctive.

“You mean a civil war? In England? You know not the ways of this nation...” War of the roses, just 200 years prior 👀

That was a war of succession not really a civil war
@johnmcclane7829 Жыл бұрын
@@jgrj52 a civil war is defined as a war between citizens of the same country, which I believe fits the situation
@roblyndon52678 ай бұрын
@@johnmcclane7829True, but the magnitude was on a different scale, and the technology was vastly different. I don't want to dismiss the Wars of the Roses -- Towton was an absolute bloodbath -- but the war we call the Civil War claimed more casualties per head of the population than WWI and WWII combined. The dialogue may be guilty of reading history backwards, but it does the job of pointing out that the war would be unprecedented in its carnage and brutality.

Ironic that the King's most emphatic defender in this room is none other than Cromwell

There will be a war Mr Cromwell, but it will not be with Scotland, Henry, a war against whom Mr Ireton, against the King sir, the King, you mean a civil war, in England

Well, they could have had some of that lovely dinner before they left! Mrs Cromwell slaved all day preparing it, after all.

Ah, the delusional wish for a strongman to make it all right.... Make England Great Again....? I'd much rather have democracy, even with its inherent fragility and fallibility.
