I hope I'm not alone here, but I really like the change in vocals. A lot of people are saying the screams have more emotion but I think the cleans have just as much.
@ShadowCrowX9 жыл бұрын
+Nicko Estrellado I think the cleans have tremendously more emotion with more control of it.

I think in some parts the clean performance gave more emotion and in other parts the scream made more emotion.

"I'm at the point where my lungs give out." God knows my lungs gave out trying to sing this song! Damn impressive stuff.

now that I've came back and dropped my preconceptions of what Crooks should be, I adore the music just as much. I love the new feel ^-^

do they have older music?

Yarp, it's a little more raw and his vox are closer to screaming and all that jazz. I really fell in love with them there, but I am absolutely still in love with the music that they create today. check out the Nevermore EP Search *Crooks UK Full EP*

lyrics: Am I avoiding this breaking down? The every year you've forgot to count And I've been dead since you left this house I guess, I realized Something, when I fell It wasn't your trouble to Leave me here I left my sorry heart With you Now on the day you swore you're leaving everything you've known Maybe your footsteps led me, i'll follow them to where I let you lay I'll find you waiting in my head I'll be home again! Just leave me here resting The words will cover Every step The leaves will cover ever step I had every daily low The water still reminds me of (her) I had a lot to explain I had a lot to explain Where were you waiting That day? I was your buddy Resenting the rest When you begged me to Feel the same I've not been myself for days I was the sound of you Holding my breath And you begged him to push me away When you begged me up to feel the same Am I alive? Am I as safe as I was Before? Am I the year that we lost it all You'll fade, it becomes me Now I'm at the point where My lungs give out I need you closer now I am every day we lost But you stay the ground that's above me
@jacktriesalltrades29973 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure that's exactly it. This is what I get: 1-Am I your body that's breaking down? The every year you forgot to count? And I've been dead since you left this house. 4-I guess I realized something when I fell: It was your troubles that led me here. I left my sorry heart with you, Now I'm the day you swore you're leaving everything you know. 8-Maybe your footsteps led me; Follow them to where I'm meant to lay. I'll find you waiting in my head. I'll be home again. 12-Just leave me here wasted. The words will cover every step. The leaves will cover every step. 15-I had every day we lost (oh). The water still reminds me of (oh). ["Every day I wished I stopped/ breathing" was the next line from an earlier version of the song, which gives more context] I had a lot to explain. x2 18-Where were you waiting that day? I was your body resenting the rest when you begged me not to feel the same. I've not been myself for days. I was the sound of you holding my breath as you begged them to push me away. When you begged me not to feel the same. 23-Am I alive? Am I as safe as I was before? Am I the year that we lost it all? And your fate, it becomes me. 27-Now I'm at the point when my lungs give out. I need you closer now. I had every day we lost, but you stay the ground that's above me. 30-Me? I'm fine.

I don't know what the original author intended, but it seems to me that they are describing a parent who died/committed suicide and the negative effect it had on the author mentally. Throughout the song, the author bounces between questioning what they are - are they a breaking down body? the years since the death? are they alive at all? - and asserting what they are - "Now I'm the day you swore you're leaving," "I was your body resenting the rest," "I was the sound of you holding my breath." We get the feeling that the author is struggling to identify themself as an individual, separate from their loss. Their loss seems to direct them ("And your fate, it becomes me"). Repetition of the concept of following in the footsteps of another (lines 5, 8-9, 26) and the repetition of the phrase "you begged me not to feel the same," seem to indicate that the person who died in this song was a parent. And an earlier version of this song contained the full lyrics, "I had every day we lost/ the water still reminds me of/ [every day I wish I stopped/ breathing]," which seems to allude to the possibility that the author was suicidal, and that maybe the parent's death was via drowning (intentional or otherwise). With this understanding, the final lines (27-29) seem to indicate exasperation because the author needed a parent, but the parent was already dead. Although the author still lives ("I had every day we lost"), it feels like they're dead ("you stay the ground that's above me"). Or put another way, the parent's death looms over the child's life, almost as if the child were dead and the grief over losing a parent were the dirt atop their grave (again, "you stay the ground that's above me"). Then the author concludes, "Me? I'm fine." as if to handwave away the situation, as one does in polite conversation where it is inappropriate to divulge this much emotion. Or perhaps it is said as a reassurance to themself, after all the tumult beforehand. But I'm probably reading too much into it. Main take away is the song hits hard, sounds good, and deserves the praise it gets.

Honestly, the reason I loved the original version of this song was the intro when the vocals were like, quiet but you could hear the emotion in the singing. This song is still great but the original can never be topped.

It's like listening to a totally different song, what with the vocals and production changing and the structure changing a bit too. I think I like the old version better but I need to hear this in the context of the album to make a proper judgement
@MrCharlieCupcakes9 жыл бұрын
+TheAlbinoskunk i have to agree dont think they need to redo any of there older stuff its nice to see a progression on where they have come from till now. not sure how im feeling with all clean vocals the song just lost all its emotion but at the same time i understand bands change and tbh what i have heard so far isnt bad but at the same time its not normally my thing.

honestly pls dont get rid of all the screams i understand as a band you evolve but so suddenly ? more than life as a band transitioned perfectly in their newest album the got slower and there was cleans but they still left in a bit of what they were as a band before. im still digging this just a bit of a shock that's all im not normally into just all cleans but you must be doing something right.
