This video tells about cross Aldol Reaction and its condensation product of C6H5COCH3 and C6H5CHO.
Aldehydes and ketones undergo a reaction in the presence of dilute alkali to form Beta hydroxy aldehydes called aldol. This reaction is called Aldol Reaction.
Aldehydes and ketones undergo many reactions due to alpha hydrogen. Carbon which is next to functional group is alpha carbon and Hydrogen which is attached to alpha carbon is Alpha. Hydrogen. This alpha Hydrogen is very acidic due to electron withdrawing effect of carbonyl group.
The name aldol is derived from names of two functional groups, aldehydes and alcohols. Even though Ketones produce retool, the name aldol is applied generally due to similarities between aldehydes and ketones.
This aldol readily loses water and produce condensation product. This reaction is aldol condensation reaction.
When acetophenone reacts with benzaldehyde it undergoes aldol condensation reaction, it produces Beta hydroxy compound which is also called Ketol
