Cross Borders Drove Road and Glensax

Join me on a traverse of part of the Kailzie Hill to Dun Rig ridge. I access the ridge from the Scottish Borders town of Peebles, using the Cross Borders Drove Road to reach the high ground. I make an early descent into Glensax to escape troublesome winds.

Thanks for showing some of the Border Country David, usual weather I'm afraid, perhaps a visit in the summer will be better. I would love to know how many more K's you walk to set up the pieces to camera, but I'm glad you do. Keep them coming.

Hello David, yes a summer visit would be good. I've crossed these hills many times, summer and winter. Mid to late August is my favourite time, when the heather is in full bloom. I especially love the colours in the gloaming. An evening camp with the camera could be worthwhile. Setting up the pieces to camera takes time, especially the long shots. The wind is often my nemesis, especially when the tripod is blown over (it never seems to happen when I'm standing next to it, but usually when I'm considerable distance away). A heavy tripod is essential when filming solo but hard work to heft over the hills. I'm fortunate that I've 'bagged' all the hills before so now I mostly arrange my trips simply to suit the filming.

Thanks Harry. I can thoroughly recommend a wee hike along Glensax. A bonnie spot indeed. It's an enclosed glen so it would be an 'out and back' walk unless you pulled up onto the high ground. An alternative would be to hike the LandRover track outwards (south) and then follow the animal (sheep) tracks back, alongside the burn, to the start at Peebles.There is a (locked) bothy near the end of the glen with a well-placed bench, ideal for a tea from the flask. There are also a few clumps of old tress by the burnside (lots of deadwood lying around), which would provide fuel for twig stove, should you decide to make a wee film. Thanks. Glad you're enjoying the vids. Hah, a wee retriever is a great idea. I quite enjoy setting up the shots and running back to retrieve the camera. Rough weather and short days certainly add to the challenges though.
